Maybe it is time to review any desire for an IMPBA class again. D-12/13 is working very well as well as other places. I have several been to several events in Fl, Ga and SC and have not seen a motor problem anywhere. I have run with and without a mandated ESC and can't see any difference other than a few Florida boats wont go north because of not having AQ ESC's. They are doing well without us so no harm no foul. I would like to see an IMPBA official class rule structure even if it is done as a sport class with no record recognition. Be nice if we mirrored NAMBA but that never seems to happen. Good news is N-P-Q-S classes are ready for anyone who wants to move up.

I've baked all the RTR motors except the AQ 1800 that comes in the Motley. Well....yet. I've torched both of the AQ speedos too. It's going to happen if you push.
My fastest LSH runs an AQ speedo. In 2009 I took second at the nats with a Castle and a ProBoat motor. The AQ setup is faster and runs cooler but it's a better boat too.
My 27" JAE spec rigger is pretty fast when I don't graze the pins. Crunchy. That one is all AQ.
My LSO runs an AQ1800 with a Castle120. I found the speedo in one of my boxes and the motor was on loan so I threw it in there. I ran the Castle purely because I had one. Works great.......but it never wins a heat.
One thing is for sure. If you buy the rtr speedo you wont be running that speedo in a higher performance class. To do that you have to buy more equipment.
Why does IMPBA insist on being a little different on so many things? I don't get it. We've been running the spec classes in NAMBA since the SV came out. Why not refer to that historical evidence? 3 or 4 years of history including multiple nationals. The history has shown us that the speedos don't really make the difference between winning and losing.Comment

From The Book: A ‘pack’ is defined as the cell(s) wired in series or parallel or any wiring combination that is used to provide electrical power to the speed control for the purpose of driving the electrical motor(s).
So......... Multiple packs "as they come from the manufacturer" are considered one pack if they are wired together in series or parallel. The only situations that I see affected by this rule are if someone runs a motor off two ESC's (which I have never seen) or when running twins. On a twin you cannot have one pack connected to each controller. They have to tied together before splitting off to the two ESC's. (don't ask me why?)Mike Chirillo

Ok, I know I ran 4S2P - b/P mono and 2-2S in series to make 4S B/P lim hydro in 2010 and nothing was said. I was just checking before I invested in 4-5S packs to run 10S2P in open Nitro/FE hydro. The way the rule is written is a bit confusing.
Thanks Mike.IMPBA 20481S D-12Comment

I agree. I was scratching my head the first time I saw it. I had to ask Doug for clarification. Maybe they should change "battery pack" to "power source".
Can't wait to see the beast run!!Mike Chirillo
