First post and a few newbie questions!

What's up everyone! I am a long time RC car guy that wants to get into boating. I did a lot of racing years ago but I got rid of everything fast and started rock crawling. Well, I am ready to go fast again but this time in a boat! I just picked up a BBY Oval 26 bare hull yesterday. The boat is 100% empty and no holes have been drilled. I want to run a lipo/brushless setup to make it as fast as possible. I need a lot of help with what hardware to get and how to mount it in the hull. I am LOST! Any advice on motor mount, shaft, props, turn fin, and placement would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for the great forum! I have a lot of reading to do...

    welcome aboard!

yes you can glean a lot from past threads of identical nature. do lots of searches on "mono setup" and similar key words. Once you get some reading done, you can ask more direct questions on how to do specific parts. Setting up a boat is mostly flexible, but there are certain things that we either learn on the lake or on the forum. You should find a plethora of good ideas and things to avoid while reading up.

Budget must be included in any questions or you will get so many different answers you may feel even more lost.

    enjoy and good luck!

Well put Jesse, as a Newb to the FE world myself i read everything i could get my hands on and then some.
the time you spend educating yourself will pay huge dividends in the end run.

i have been in r/c since 1984, pretty much seen and done it all over the years, the one thing that allways stays consistant was educate, learn , and application of the knowledge.

each new format of r/c i have done over the years has a learning curve. fortunately in todays world we have forums for great upfront information at our fingertips..this was not allways the case, the days of trial and error and bad advice are long gone, as long as you utilize and apply the vast amount of information that is available.

Take your time, enjoy the ride and the build, read, read, and then read some more...it will all make sense i the end, even to a dumb old country boy like myself....

      Have fun,
      Giz.

I dont really have any big goals for this boat. Just trying to learn on it and build a good running boat out of it. This boat will probably never see any real racing but the trash talk has started with my friends about who will have the fastest boat. I am sure they will buy some RTR boats while I build this hull from nothing. I would love to see 50+ mph if that is possible. I am not trying to break the bank on it but I don't mind spending some good money on it if thats what it takes. Especially if I can use those parts on a faster boat later on. I am fired up about this project!!!

                    Hey Dan-O,

Welcome to our merry band of boat nuts

The OM 26 is a really good boat to get started with. Fast, corners like a bobsled, & can handle some sloppy water like a jumping fish. I've run mine as a P-Spec LSO racer several years ago, as many have done. An easy, fun & not too expensive power system would be a UL-1 motor & speedy. Get you into the mid forties with decent runtime. I Ran mine as a go-faster with a Faigao 8XL & 120 amp speedy & got around fifty - pretty much the limit of the hull if you don't like swimming. Mount the strut at least 3/8" up from the bottom of the V to keep the hull from over-airing out to eliminate chine walk. Lots of hardware to choose from here at OSE. Ask lots of questions; you'll get good advice here ( just ignore Douggie )

The UL-1 motor and ESC as Tony has suggested would be a great combo on 4S power and that was when Tony had one of his more lucid moments. As we are old farts in our sixties

We can be brutal on this site but most of the time it is meant in fun...fire ahead with your valid questions and you will be answered
