I don't think his batteries have enough cont amps for that motor. Unless he's running parallel on those. I'd imagine it's a lvc issue. If he is running parallel on those it is just at 88 amps using the 80% rule and if he hit a amp spike he's screwed. I think if he upgraded to batts with more mah his issue would go away.

What radio and Rx ....have compenents got wet...when did the problems first appear and 3S is SAW times on that motor

A pair of 4400 25c packs in parallel should easily be able to deliver over 200 amps if called upon. if you set-up is poor and things are binding, you could be overloading the ESC. Another possibility - if this is a used boat and the ESC was in it, you need to check the Low Voltage Cutout (LVC) setting. It might be set to 12 volts or so, in which case you will often be hitting the cut-out. The LVC is a safety feature to prevent over-discharge of your batteries but it needs to be set to suit how many cells you are running.
