Turnigy vs. Hyperion Eagle Tree Comparison

After a very interesting thread started by Ozzie-Crawl on battery matters, I thought I'd do some voltage-drop comparisons between these two brands. The Turnigy was a 30-40C 5000 mah pack with at least 20 runs on it using only a UL-1 motor. The Hyperion was a 35-70 C 5000 mah used in 2P config in my Delta 33 & now my Cyberstorm 32. The Hyperion pack is seven months old and has at least 20 runs on it also. I ran the tests in my FE 30 with a UL-1 motor and speed control and a tweaked M445.

The blue line on the left is the Turnigy, the blue line on the right is the Hyperion. Both started out at basically the same voltage, BUT you can see how the Turnigy dropped down way more than the Hyperion right away. The difference in running voltage, multiplied by the motor KV accounts for a significant difference in prop rpm, and of course speed. I have some new Turnigy 45-90C nanos on the way and will graph when I get the chance. Oh, I couldn't get the graph to load directly, so I took a picture of the screen - should be clear enough to decipher.
    Interesting stuff-Eh ?

Thats good data to back up what we see on the pond. I have some less expensive packs as well as some high dollar G3s and there is a significant difference in performance, 4-5 mph from one to the other. Thats a big gain even for us sport runners, like everything is this hobby you $pay$ for performance.

interesting stuff , i also have done some data logging with different brands of batteries & thats why i will stick with the hyperion G3 cells for now , you get what you pay for at the end of the day !!!!

Yep, you just have to be willing to spend 2 to 3 times as much for that few extra mph. Hopefully the nanos are a bit more comparable.

Good info. I wonder how well the more expensive FlightPower EONX 30 LiPo would perform. A test between brand new packs would be interesting also.

Send me some, I'll be glad to put them to an extensive, long-term test- lol

The log shows pack voltage Vs accumulative current draw... mAh

why not PackVoltage Vs Watts ?

Assuming this is a mimic wot run, the data would show available power output from each pack
Ive Chinese 'no-names' that outperform TP45 on Vdrop... but on available Amps the TP output more power.(watts)...
                volts/watts I think a better judge of battery .

if there is 3-4 mph difference from HK packs compared to a Hyperion, then for sport boaters would the extra price of say a 4s 5000 Hyperion be better of spent on going to 6s with turnigy cells or do you think its worth spending the extra $$$ for the Hyperion.
would the less amp draw (then less voltage drop) offset enough going from 4s to 6s to gain back those few mph on a cheaper pack ?

Tony were the packs cold or pre heated ?

How many charges are you guys getting out of your cheap lipos ?? why spend anywhere from $ 1000 to 2000 on a nice boat set up , then run it on 50 buck lipos , each to there own i guess !!!!

but in saying what i said in my last post the worst lipo packs i have ever owned where Flight power evo 25s & they were the most i have ever spent on lipos , got stuff all charges out of them before they were useless , so go figure ....

well i know someone tested a turnigy in his rigger against a Hyperion, was 3 mph difference (at 80+ i think) but the Hyperion had a higher C rating, when both batteries were preheated there was no mph difference.
i can understand paying more for a better pack but cant see 3-4 times the price being worth the few mph gained.
i still have a 30c 5000 turnigy i brought from when they first released them

i have cheap zippy ones that lasted for years and have atleast 100 cycles on them. then i have not so cheap elite that diddent last 20 cycles so i guess it all comes down to how you take care of them.

Glad zippys are cheap over there , cause in Australia i get my G3s for the same price as zippys , but everthing over here is a rip off , i guess thats why i buy in the US most of the time , i was in a local hobby shop the other day & he had a UL1 on the shelf for GET THIS it was $750 what a joke , i got mine off Steve for $ 500 with shipping , you guys have it good over there !!!!
