Using a spark supressor resistor to plug in anything 4S or more will prevent a massive arc as such and extend capacitor life.

I hope your fingers heals quickly and well, that really must have been nasty. Thanks for sharing.

It's come to this for me. If my head is down, you bug me you get told... $%#@ off

another thing you can do re shorting the leads, on the male lead, slip a bit of heatshrink over the lead and cover past the end of the plug 2-3mm, heat the heatshrink just beyond where you solder the wire, but leave where the plug engages un shrunk and it will act as a boot I use 10mm heatshrink on 6mm bullets.

I seem to be in the middle of the crowd here.
If I am getting the Q+A from a passerby I'll be as polite as needed but still tell them to "give me a minute" while I hook up.

I used to have females on both battery leads but once fed an esc backwards that did not like pos shoved up its neg. Concentrating there may have helped.
I now run pos male neg female.

For transport or any time the leads are not hooked up to the esc I have these neat little rubber boots that slip over male plug on 5.5's Scott(ozzie-crawl) sent them to me. You can also make them out of heatshrink which I do for the 4mm plugs.

Now that the males can not arc with the females I then have rubber bands cut from old cycle inner tubes on all my packs and can tuck the leads under that to stop leads flopping about. All very tidy and safe.

The only drawback with this plug setup is that if you are really dumb you could dead short a pack.

        Just some more ideas.
        See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

Thanks guys. Some good ideas here. Got some blue/green shrink wrap coming to help and came up with this:

5/16 ID tubing over the bullets for travel.

Females on the packs, males on the ESC for me!!!
FWIW There is one guy in the club that uses the "red hot female" protocal on his cells. He is also the only one that has ever shorted a pack.

            Be careful fellas.

PS- I've also started connecting the packs and then installing them in the boat. This helps prevent the problem I had, which was the Neg on the battery and the Neg on the ESC, looked the same and were in the same place in the hull... Tricky.

I had a kid several months back, about 8-years old ask me about a dozen questions while running at a local pond. Then he was quiet for a bit and finally asked. "Can I have it?" I guess he figured it couldn't hurt to ask!

I know what 2nd degree burns are like and I simpathize with you and hope for a speedy recovery! I use Sermos and the + and - are side by side, color coded and pined so they can only fit the correct way and no bare contacts to short in the battery box.

Not all bystanders are horses butts.

This past weekend the boys and I went down to the pond, only to find the sail boaters out there. I didnt want to bother them so I went to another place that bordered by a hotel. After an hour or so, a couple staying at the hotel came over to ask some questions and watch. While he and was there a hotel women came buy and said she owed the water front and asked us to leave. I agreed. While packing up, the guy ran over the to catch the hotel manager in her car and gave her a quick story that we were his guests and he had invited us over to the pond for the day. She agreed to let us stay. He went out of his way to help out. Must have been his southern hospitality. He was from NC.

It also helps, that the guy must have had some serious pull, the hotel was a top notch new place and he was staying in one of their 2500 square foot suites.
