    PSA- 2nd degree burns hurt.

...and happen when people are distracting you and you plug a 6s 5k pack into itself.

Burnt half of my index finger, melting the nail. Nasty smell.

I was holding the connectors together and this guy kept talking... and talking... and talking...

Typically, I leave the negative plugged in and at the pond, plug the positive into the ESC on both sides. The ESC side is always black. Therein lies the problem. I'll have to use red heat shrink on the ESC side too. I was holding the 8mm bullet with a pretty tight grip and pushing hard with my thumb and index finger.

No pics of the burn. It's just nasty and charred skin with blisters... taped up at the time being.

The bastard had the nerve to say, what did you do? Why did you do that? That looks like it hurts. Is it supposed to smell like that?

    I hate people.

(PS, it's all my fault, I should have taken a few minutes and talked to him and answer some questions and wish him good day... but seriously, I just like to be left alone)

I used to put a piece of green shrink over the middle-of-the-pack connection so I would always be matching colors of shrink.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, wish you a speedy recovery. I've been there & done that; Legg Lake is a public park and curious onlookers will somewhat innocently wander over & ask questions while powering up. Since I've reverse-polarity smoked some stuff while trying to be nice and plugging in at the same time I now have a self-imposed rule of telling them to remain silent so I can focus.

I'm sure we've all experienced the frustration of answering the question :" How much is that boat?" and having to explain that the run of the mill high performance FE boat may have a cost factor of double or triple that of the boat cost itself when you factor in the support equipment. Oh well !

Do not get me started on the curious onlooker, but young kids (3 - 8) I have a lot of time for and will stop what I am doing and try and answer their questions.

This post was modiified to add a "but" to make better sense

It really tugs at my heartstrings when a Father and Son stop by to ask questions about getting into the hobby as a really nice way to spend quality time together and find out that there's an investment required that may well be beyond their moderate means.
We should all feel fortunate that our FE community consists of those gifted with the wherewithall to indulge in our hobby.

Yeah, hate answering when kids or parents ask how much. It always leads to disappointment.

The ones that bother me, like this guy today are damn near indigent and wander the public parks down here. I say damn near, because they don't ask for money and may or may not have a job, they just steal all the attention they can get from anyone they can so they don't have to pay any attention to themselves.

The lack of teeth, the fowl breath, disgusting personal appearance and a very intrusive demeanor are tell tale signs.

I like that idea Andy, I'm thinking that may work for me too! =)

Next time let them plug in the batteries!!!!!!

Wait till you short out a 10S pack, then you'll see some damage!

The plugs in the photos are 8mm and unsoldered themselves from the heat, it sounded just like an arc welder sounds and left spots in my eyes that I can still see.

I can only imagine it is worse with more voltage.

You know, the only real solution to this problem is to take a minute and talk to the people around you like they are family... but meh. I'd rather be "playing with my toy boat" as my SO says to me.

Glad to see I am not the only one who has done this. I did not have any burns, but the arc weld it produces is quite impressive. Suddenly, the design of those deans connectors are pretty brilliant. chuckle. To bad they don't make a deans high amp.

                          Sorry to hear.

I started using these blue connectors for high current applications. I forget what they are called, but I think Losi makes them. They are definitely safer than bullets. Your story even further supports my decision of never going back.

                            They're called EC3 or EC5 (3mm or 5mm). You can find them on www.horizonhobby.com

They're the only thing I use any more. I got rid of a LOT of Sermos and Deans when I came to work here.

Geeez. I did it with a 3s pack once, and I thought that was bad. Burned the figer just a little and left a nice black stain.
