Sad to hear, speedy recovery there. I know your pain.

I have a little sign i stand up stating not to approach my rig. If i know you i will motion you over, otherwise, stay away.

My most famous reply to a small child was "back away and dont bother me"**** (i didnt know it was a small kid at the time)**** while i was connecting my 12 packs and my face was buried in the Princess' hull.

My brother talked to the irate father, not that i cared about his anger to be clear on that, and explained what was going on. I found out 15 minutes later it was a kid, after i hooked up the wires i talked his ear off and answered all his questions, both were happy.

Civility aside, do not be afraid to tell people to back away or be quiet. I have been to a few meets where they even have signs up telling spectators not to talk to the drivers or pit crews, its simply good practice.

I see to many quality builds on this and other forums and meets with tons of investment in both time, tears, and money to let sensibilities get in the way of concentration and safety. I call it tough love, polite but firm.

Some of you guys really know how to deal with people. If someone at our club said that to someone they would catch hell from the president.
The last thing we all need is to generate ill feelings from the general public. After all the next person who approaches you could be a future clubmember or even top notch racer.
It pays to be as polite as possible when dealing with non participants(audience).
          cheers

It's always nice to be nice to the people around you at the pond and build a good reputation for the R/C hobby as a whole. Around here I've seen a lot of people very open and accepting of our hobby but at the same time some people are very negative and complain that our trucks are ripping up their land (*cough* PUBLIC *cough*), planes are disrupting birds, and boats are killing their underwater fairies or whatever. I figure it's best to keep the number of nay-sayers to a minimum. One of our local ponds has a rule against R/C boats in particular, I'd hate to see more ponds become the same way because I told someone to piss off. If I really don't want to be talked to, I'll open-carry my XDm .40. People are generally paranoid and afraid of a gun to approach anyone carrying one and will just leave you alone.

Sorry to hear this. Hope your recovery is speedy. I use females on the pos & neg side so this doesn't happen in the boat or my larger worry is when its in my battery box.

Here is a classic....I am setting up a new hull and I hear footsteps from behind and a woman in a very strong voice stating that the motor whine of your boat is upsetting my dog, before I can respond Fido jumps in and about $300.00 worth of props and other equipment are spillt from my tool box to a watery death. The next scene was not pretty....nice dog....bad bitch.

I use only female plugs on my lipos that way while transporting or storing them they cant accidently get bumped around and make contact.... Also the Positive lead is 1 inch shorter than the Negitive lead
Can you imagine charged cells sitting in a storage box and one wire bent up and the other laying at a odd angle and through the night the weight of the bent up end slowly creeps down...... Contact then BOOM...... everything you own has gone up in a blaze!!!!
Might sound far fetched till it happens...

Crabstick has the right of it I think. Be polite always but when you need to concentrate, politely ask them to let you concentrate on what you're doing. I've done the same thing so I finally built a junction box into which I plug all my batteries. It automatically sets the series and parallel connections.

Thats also my biggest fear. The short pos lead is a dam good idea. I will start doing that. Simple, but very effective.
