    Your First Boat

Just wanted to see how everyone got started in boating. After 20 years of cars and trucks, last year I bought a Aquacraft SuperVee 27. Now I am hooked.

    What was your first boat?

I'm in much the same "BOAT" as you BakedMopar, pardon the pun.

I've ben doing Cars, Trucks, Helis for 24+yrs and my first boat was a SV27 and the same week bought a 48" Aeromarine w/a Homelight . I was hooked after that, but I've sold both to build a 44" race mono Zenoah powered and ordered the TRX Titan.

I picked up an ABS hull hydro from battlepack.com a few years back that I thought would be fun to play around with. However, it collected dust and was run very little. Recently I picked up a MiniCat Racing Velocity Mono and love it. I'm currently selling off several of my trucks to buy more boats. Of course, it does help keep the interest with this in my backyard:

First boat was a Traxxas Villain, i was 12!! A couple years later moved up to an MRP Bud Dry Cat, ran it with 1500mah 7 cell NiCd's (this was 15 years ago), fast boat for about 2 minutes lol. Then i went nitro, got into IMPBA racing, now back to FE thanks to the SV27.

Mine was an old scratch built tug boat. It was super strong and seemed to run all day on its large 6v lead acid battery. My dad was racing model yachts and at the time I thought 'sails' were boring. Years later I got into cars/buggies and just had to get another boat. What an amazing time to discover the joys of Lipo's and Lehner motors!! Woop Woop!!!

I was in San Diego - in the Navy - back about 1984, I was at the Gold Cup Unlimited race on Mission Bay and stopped over to watch the scale Unlimiteds - gas boats. Since 1984 I've always wanted to build a scale hydro and finally last year, bought a Miss K from Steve,+ Feigo brushless+all the other stuff. Lots of fun to build! Probably going on maiden voyage next weekend. I've been working off and on building this boat for almost a year-very off and on, LOL.
I've probably read every article on brushless boating in the last year! Hey, I'm meticulous! I will post video after first run.

Thanks everyone for all the wisdom.

ElectroVee 12 cells brushed can with Astro flight ESC. Dad and I each had one and mine was always faster - but more squirelly... I also was probably 12-15.

There were all kinds of cars over the years. Anybody remember the Spirit? It was front wheel drive.

First rc boat was an MRC Excalibur. Maybe 25 years ago.

Before that though I had a little boat that had an outboard that ran off AA batteries I think about 8 or 9 inches long. Wasn't RC but that was the start. We had so much fun with those. After we broke the outboards we would tie them to fishing lines and drag them with our poles as fast as we could.

my friends had a few FE boats that really got my attention but just fairly small ones nothing over 30" and then i bought a RTR small cat (abs) off ebay and decided that just wasnt enough!! so then i bought my 51" cobra gt mono hull and as i was making plans to build it (and saving money) i came across sandys HPR233 with twin Lehner 3080's..... and now that iv bought that im tryn to sell my other stuff lol.

i jumped in way over my head, but i love these big cats!!!!! cant wait to finish it.. schulze 40.160 escs, my futaba 2.4 receiver, and battery hold downs for 8- 6s .... and a few other small things and she will be in the water!!!
thanks to evryone on here who has helped me or been helping me!!

I scratch built a 67 Bardahl from Roger Newton plans after spending a lot of hours helping to restore the 67 Miss Budweiser at the Hydro Museum
