My response to HK:
I ship it to you yesterday. Mailman have problem though, blow up in box. Post office full of smoke. Police are here, very angry for fire. They ask many questions. I don't know how to spell your name. How you spell it?

Thanks! All in good fun. I really didn't send it. I just told them I shipped it and I'll leave it at that. Not going to ship it, just move on.
BTW- I vented the cell in a firesafe compliments of the local FD bomb disposal. (small town) We were all so disappointed, that it didn't smoke, fire or anything. Just a pinhole, re-compressed the cell, then plugged the hole with CA glue and then epoxy covered by strapping tape. It's good to go. I'll keep my eye on it.
We were really hoping for a chemical reaction... but never happened. 3.81v/cellFighterCatRacing Team CHING BLING - Ching Bling. Brilliant, Advanced Sparkle for your hull.Comment

for smaller cells I don't think it is that common for fire, we sacrificed a 4500 mah 2s lipo to the lipo gods by ramming a steel stake through it, yeah there was a small fire, nothing major though didn't really live up to the expectations that we all had. In my early Lipo usage days I had some TP packs for my heli, that puffed so much they are almost round... still flew them a bit and they were ok.. I still have them, they still hold a charge though I dont use them anymore. I think its VERY unlikely for a Lipo that is not charging or getting current drawn from it would catch fire unless its shorted or molested in some way
Not saying lipos don't burst into flames but I think people times get a little hysterical about it... though I agree about not shipping it by air.
I do think that whilst charging them or discharging them, is when the most risk occurs.
You should have sent that reply to HK, put the willies up them...Comment

The proper way to dispose of bad lipos is to drop them into a bucket of salt water. Soak for a couple of days and then you can throw them in the trash. May not be as much fun as burning them up but more environmentally responsible.Mini Cat Racing USA
