Think this might be a problem?

Hmmm. Just arrived like this. All puffed up. Never see one quite like this. Is there a way to re-compress it back to size?

I'm assuming it's from the FL heat and being in a 120+ degree place for more than a day... but dunno.

That pack is JUNK! Don't even try it... don't charge it... don't "press" it... It's done. Could have happened do to an over-discharge situation or ???

Either way, it's toast. I'd send it back... CAREFULLY, or send them the pics and ask for a replacement.

DO NOT CHARGE IT! You have a fire waiting to happen there.

Most likely the seller doesn't want it back either, nor does the post office.

Call them up and send photos.

          Nice.

It's in a lipo safe now, away from anything flammable. Sent the merchant a note and these photos.

Wonder what caused it? I literally just unpacked it that way a couple of minutes ago. Good thing it didn't blow up on the way here!

I don't think that it's nearly as unstable as some might think, but there is that risk. If it's just a single cell, then it's likely caused by an inbalance in the pack, and as they naturally dischaged from sitting, that cell discharged too far.

Well, I guess I can split the pack and use the three cells.

I'm curious as to what happens if the pack is ruptured? I've not poked into the lipos or had one to cut up for trash yet.

Sometimes the chemistry just goes crazy in these things ? Theres nothing that can be done to prevent this (assuming these are brand new never charged)
I work for a LHS and we order tons of Thunder Power packs as well as other brands and out of every shipment theres usually a puffer. (Even the TP packs).

THe distributor just shruggs their shoulders and sends another and we dispose of these, nothing can be done to salvage them so there are garbage.

As mentioned prior, NEVER squeeze the puffed packs ! Could immediately start a smokey scenario then a fire ! When they are puffed they are obvisously under some pretty serious pressure. We had a guy come in the shop earlier this year with a puffed lipo wanting to know whats wrong it, as soon as we told him NOT to squeeze it whats he do (yes he squeezed it) started to immediately smoke and sizzle like bacon frying, barely got it out of the shop befor the real heavy smoke started pouring out.

Heres how I/we dispose of lipos.

All of these cells were drawn down to 3.2v per cell, if it was fully charged it would have ben a spectacular smokey/fire show.

Ah, so basically, if they have a charge left and the cells are exposed to open air, they will smoke and potentially fire?

I really haven't looked in to the chemistry of these things. Suppose I should.

Just out of interest, have you measured the voltage of each cell? That would have been my first reaction.

Not each cell, but put the cell minder on it and all read green (above 3.2v)

                          Lemme check.

After all is said and done with the warranty process... I'll see what value this may have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDbDWw4bhtQ
