So, back from the weekend. I ran the boat with the changes made as pictured above (shrink wrap and ensuring the drive dog pushes up against the strut) and basically the problem is solved! A very tiny amount of water in the hull after a full run. I am declaring this mystery solved. Works great. The boat continues to amaze me on how well it handles in turns and how stable it is. Next time I am going to use it to race some SV27's my brother and brother in-law have. I think it will do well. I did notice the motor was pretty warm after the run, but the esc was fine.

I purchased a surge crusher and it is almost at my house according to the tracking.
I saw the plastic shaft tube and that the .187 teflon that can fit inside so this looks like what i am going to do is get rid of the plastic shaft tube and get a .187 teflon liner and a 9/32 shaft tube so it will have a metal shaft tube.

I am excited for the boat and see how well it runs and if it can beat my 40mph villain!

Yes, always use tape around the hatch. When I first started boating, I was always looking for ways to avoid taping the hatch and asking people the same question. I have learned that you ALWAYS tape the hatch on almost ALL FE boats. There are some exceptions and some people have built solutions for certain custom boats.

Steven, here at OSE, sells the perfect tape to be using. The tape that came with the boat is not so great. Just make putting tape on a part of the routine. You will find that you start looking for boats with SQUARE hatches so the taping is much easier.

Sounds like a good plan. Yes, since mine went about 37mph with a stock prop, I would bet you can beat 40mph with just a little better prop. However, I do not think there is much room to push it since the motor came back so warm after a long run.

Yea that is true! I am probobly going to get some type of 3674 motor arount 1200-1500kv and try to run it on 6s and up to 8s possibly eventually. I have a habbit of overpowering boats. 1100kv 3674 motor on 8s?

The shaft tube doesn't seem as bad as i anticipated! I think i am gonna take it for a spin tonight! :) I think you can get this boat to go 50+mph for under 300 bucks total with shipping!

Just ran it bone stock with 4s 3300mah 30c batteries and that thing is fast! I couldn't come close to flipping it even when i tryed to! The motor and esc were pretty hot tho.
It was keeping up with or going faster than the cars next to the road by the pond I was at and the speed limit on the road is 40mph. My batteries are a little lighter so i don't doubt it hit 40.
IMO it is an incredible boat for the money!
I wish they had a motor-less and esc-less edition tho!

Congrats! I think the hull could handle more speed for sure. I am going to just run it "as is" until the motor/esc give out then I will probably drop somthing slightly bigger in to see what it can handle.

Did you add the throttle bellow on the cable and stuffing tube? Good idea.
