    36" H & M Cat set up

It looks like I'm about to be the proud new owner of a 36" H&M drifter cat with hull and hardware. I need to know what I will need in terms of motor, prop & ESC. I am going to be running 4 cell lipo's as it is what I already have for my trucks and buggies. I'm trying to do this on a bit of a budget (about $150) for the electrics so I think it will be HK. Should I be getting the 180 amp or will the 120 amp esc do? What KV should I be looking for?

    Thanks

I'm doing an apparition (34" cat) and going with a castle 2200kv and 180a ESC on 4s turning a 445 prop. Still in the works, but that's the plan.

    I saw a setup for a 90a & 2450 w/can recently: http://www.hobbyhot.com/hobbywing-se...1-pr-1984.html Looks like it might be a good budget setup for 4s.

IMO I wouldn't run a cat that size on anything under 6s. If you have enough 4s cells run 8s2p with a mild KV motor. Feigao 580L 12 wind.

I would only have enough to do that for one run (I only have one pair of 4 cells, then 2 sets of 2 cell matched pairs, 1 @ 5000mah and 1 @ 4000 mah). But the Genesis at HK is the same size and they are recomending a 3 cell? Sorry for all the ??? but I'm new to the boats.

That is a very good suggestion but your budget is the limiting factor. The ESC alone is going to set you back $200 or more. Your budget should be around $350.00 minimum for motor, prop and ESC. Large boats are expensive to run at a decent speed

will the 180 amp turnigy from HK not do it?

I can get this here for about $100.

What kind of speed are you looking to get?

If just cruising around, then the 120a with a 1800 or so setup would work. The stock apparition 125a/1520 Kv went about 36mph on 3s with a 38mm two blade prop...

From what I've gathered and asked here, 30k rpm is a good target range RPM. Volts x Kv

I think I would be happy if I could get around the 40 mph mark, I think if it's much slower I might get bored pretty quick. lol. I do have a 7XL (2370KV) that I've had sitting around for a few years and never used, maybe put a cooling jacket on it and use it. Only problem is it has the 3.175mm shaft. I could make a new coupler if that's all that will be needed

The boat in my avitar is a 36" drifter:) I run a nemesis 9xl.... With a castle hydra 120 on a m445 prop.... Works well... On 4s2p I get almost 40 mph... On 5s2p I get 46.... It's a good setup... My drifter is a sport setup for sure.... I have faster boats so this one is just for fun but it does handle well and is very reliable with this setup and prop... On 5s I can hold it wide open on the turns:) and it sure is a sweet hull!

IMO- Get the 180a ESC and update the motor when you can. If you search eBay, and play the auctions, you can probably get a 2200 1515 for about $90. OSE has cooling cans for it. Don't know enough about the 7XL to say much about it. In fact, I'm pretty new to FE and still learning how to setup a good fun boat. =)

Your 7xl will work but will def want the 180 turnigy esc and will need to run 4s2p... Not 4s1p... As the 7xl will draw more amps of course... But it will be a good hot 4s2p setup.... Try the m445 prop with it:) o

Do not use the 7XL in that hull. As you are new to boating and with a large prop and a wet setup things will go poof

is it the KV's being to high or the shaft size that's the problem
