Need Info in a KB45 vs. Neu

Are these motors any good? If I wanted to upgrade to a Neu motor would I be looking at the 1521 series?

OSE dropped them if that tells you anything. It is nowhere near the quality and power of the NEU in my opinion.

The Neu is the much better motor, however you may not need a 1521. what hull and set up are you planning on using???

Scale boat 33" with submerged prop. Have a Fine Design transmission so I dont want to be motor limited.

Consider a Castle creations motor. OSE sells them, a bit cheaper than neu.

sounds like a scale runabout. why don't you post a pic or 2.

a 1521 would probably shred those plastic gears on the FDM transmision you wont be limited with a Neu.
            again more info needed

From the looks of it, you dont need that much of a motor.
How fast do you want to go? 15-20MPH?

                    How about a BJ Motor.

Good idea. But make sure to use a Castle Hydra 120 or something else with reverse. It would be a shame to have a scale both without reverse.

That boat screams Graupner 700 8.4bb to me......................10-14 cells. Big workhorse motor with internal cooling fan and you can add brush cooling very easily.

I doubt that 700 has more power than the BJ motor, plus being brushless it's more efficient...The BJ motor is 6 poles and well built.

We race the scale lobster boats in Maine. My current boat (not the one pictured) is the mid west 30" balsa lobster boat kit that will run 22.6 MPH on GPS with a Hacker 11XL B50 with (2) 9.6 volt sub C pattery packs in series. I have set these boats up in some cases with trim tabs, water cooling & flex shafts with the teflon lined tube, T bars you name it (been in RC for 20+ years). The races start from a dead stop & run about 75 yars around a bouy & back. The hull pictured is a new Bluejacket and its fiberglass so I am thinking 25+ MPH for this one. The most difficult issue with the build is setting the height & length of the spray rails as with this type if semi round bottom hull, the rails are extreamly critical as they control the attitude of the boat.
