Guys, this expanding foam stuff, is it guaranteed not to expand further after the initial application?? Say you apply the stuff in wintertime, when summer comes and the season starts again. With the summer heat and and enclosed hull, will it expand further?
    Just curious

Go to your local kayak shop and get a block of minicell foam and cut shape and glue some in the empty spaces of your boat.http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.a...76&deptid=1764

Holy crap! That stuff's way too expensive when you consider a pool noodle will do multiple boats and they're only about $2!

Do not try and do the whole cavity at once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will add all the flotation you will need, at the same weight of pool noodles AND will add strength to the hull,,which pool noodles DO NOT.

Doby, I took your advice months ago about how to use the great stuff and this is how I do all my boats including my gas KOS..
I like how it makes the hull more ridged, especially for my big KOS

What question? That looks like a statement, and I don't agree with it. Once it is cured, it is closed cell and water shouldn't be getting behind it or absorbed by it. I've been using spray foam. Follow Doby's suggestion and no worries. It stiffens and quiets lightweight hulls and the pieces of your smashed boat will float back to you (Ha!). I've used both noodles and foam for different applications.

The low expanding stuff wasn't available ten years ago. I have also had an ABS plastic hull almost bust apart from applying too much foam at one setting. But I learned from the experience.

                      No, not at all..
as long as you do not cut the foam it will keep water tight

I know pool noodles soaks up water over time.

Why not glue in the pool noodles with low expanding foam?

Sweet! I'm sure there's an application where that would be best. That stuff is crazy sticky and tenatious once cured. I like that thinking!

It is excellent as glue. I attached some foam panels to steel cabinet doors, like a charm. What you need to do to stop expanding is what they call killing the foam... apply on one surface, make contact with the second, hold a couple of seconds, remove, wait 5 min and put parts together again... it will hold forever and will not expand.

I found this at Home Depot next to the Great Stuff foam and decided to give it a try. It is a little more expensive but I was able to fill in the bow of my Mhz Gecko in one shot. Let it set for a day or 2 close to the heater to cure. It doen't ever hardened and is easily removed if you need to. I had to cut part of out so my motor would fit very easy to do and trim just how you want it.
