The can on the Heli version is a tad smaller and the shaft spins just a bit easier than the car version

Yeh... I got a bunch of the motors from castle.... my first 1717 came as a Air version too.... I got the buggy version a few days ago but I think i will keep the air version too.... for the $70 I mine as well keep it too... a sale like this will never come around again...... Like rum says the air version will probably work fine with a big cpu fan flowing on her..... but on the castle website it tells you the air versions motor wires cant be shortened... I wonder why???

They are winding wires and will affect the Kv and resistance if shortened. The car versions stop the windings at the case and use 10 ga leader wires that can be any length.

Steve Neu said that motors that turn easier were of a more efficeint version. Maybe?

They use different type of wires. The air version has a coating on the wires and the car one doesn't.

Anyone have a link to good cooling fans? Should be able to buy a handful of them cheap in the right place.

These are big blowers if you have the room. Use them on my buggy connected to the balancing plug.

The castle blowers are for the 15 series motors.
8mm difference in can diameter, it may fit with some work.
FrozenCPU has a good selection of 5v fans that you can run off the receiver.

I figured for 11-bucks it would be worth a try. They only use zip ties to hold them in place.

Plus, I think the design is cool. (no pun intended!)

You would want a fan blower air through the holes in the front of the motor, not on the case.
