Building up the Blackjack 26 bl

Out of the 5 boats I've bought in the past 6 months (NQD Admiral 40", Proboat mini-c, Apache 24 ep, Blackjack 26bl, Blackjack 55) I've come to like the Blackjack 26 bl the best and therefore have played around with it's setup the most. As I'm new to the rc boating venue I've made some comments about how fast I'd like to see this thing go. In most cases I'm guessing you guys think I'm nuts, or retarded or hell even both. But from reading lots of the posts here on the site these are the things I want to do to my boat for looks and or performance, so pls stay with me on my crack head ideas. Laugh if you want too as well.

Unless I'm going to run into severe performance or explosive problems, this is what I now have in mind for the Blackjack hull.

    Motor: Feigao 8XL
    Batteries: 4900 Trak Power Li-po
Speed Control: Castle Creations Hydra 240
    Motor Mount: OSE Water cooled
    Radio: Spectrum SR3300T
    Servo: Futaba S9452
    Rudder: OSE Aluminum
    Prop: Octura x642
Drive system: OSE black aluminum inline rudder strut combo

you'll want the water jacket for the motor too(feigao's don't come with them).
Still waiting for my boat to come in.it came in

If you change the rudder you should change also the strut and shaft. Now it is two in one. What do you have in mind? Here is a modified one (not mine) with everything changed

I was going to water cool the motor, but I was going to use the cooling jacket off of the old 1500kv motor.

Good idea. I hear its a power robbing whore system that comes stock. I'll look into a blue anodized one. Whats a good company for the strut shaft setup?

Lets keep in touch so we can share ideas, so we know how things are working out. Is the 6xl faster than the 7 or 8xl???

A Speedmaster 3/16 strut should be fine. But you will also need a flex and prop. shaft as well. Choose the Hughey 0.150 or 0.187 flex with 3/16 prop. shaft

I know that the prop shaft needs to get bigger as the hp goes up but does weight not play an issue with spool up time and how fast the boat gets on plane? If this is true then would I not want to stick with a .150 or even smaller shaft? smaller maybe not but definitely stay on the smaller side?

As for the strut. Why does the thickness matter much?

If you are going for the voltage and therefore 30-35k rpms range of your set up (assuming you are talking 4S), you want a rugged drive line, thus the thicker flex. The trade off for durability is well worth the extra ounce of weight.

the thicker stub/strut (3/16") is a standard that allows you more prop options. the 1/8" is for smaller props (35mm and smaller). Your 642 will want a 3/16 stub.

Twisted Liquid Racing offers a great hup-up rudder/ drive system that is relatively inexpensive.

I ran my boat today at Humber Bay Park with the mamba max esc, stock motor (20 degree timing), 4900 trak power li-po, and stock prop and ran at 58 KPH acording to my bushnell sportster Radar gun. The first time I ran her, stock out of the box she ran 47 KPH. So with the batt change, timing adjustment and esc change, I gained a total of 11 KPH. My prop from OSE came in today but didn't get the chance to run it yet. It'll go on today but won't run it till tomorrow. Once I get my other stuff from OSE I'll update again.

i would not say the 6xl is a faster motor but it does have a higher kv rating (2800) so on 4s you would get more rpm. iam not looking for a very long run time 3-4 passes, if you want to change the strut/rudder have a look at these, you mite need a spacer tho just to bring the strut back a bit, it comes with a .150 flex and 3/16 stub shaft http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...502b15&cat=123

Great stuff. I have that strut/rudder assembly on order, and as soon as it gets in I'll have it installed. Thanx for the link Ozzie

you may need another coupler from the motor to flex as the .150 flex will be larger than the origonal flex. here is what i did with mine as i off set the rudder and made a bracket for the strut.

if you want a motor esc suggestion you could try a ammo 2300 on the stock esc with a x440 prop, i run this setup in a 25" mono and it runs at 45mph/ or you could try a fiego 8xl and a 120 amp esc
