Delta Force 29 (knock off) Build

Here is my build of the DF 29

Feigao 8xl, OSE water jacket, custom motor mount built by Peter Zica, .150 flex cable, Speedmaster Mono hardware system with Speedmaster 1”x 1.5” trim tabs. Plywood parts are covered with fiberglass cloth and zpoxy, just thought it had to be sealed anyway so might as well make it look better by giving it a fiberglass cloth texture . The strut is shortened by 1 inch as suggested by others including Doug Smock and andym for better handling. I’ll be running it as a 4s setup with 2 side by side – 2s 4900 polyquests and using a 200amp WC Himodel esc that I’ve posted pics of on the Highmodel 200amp thread here on the OSE forum. My CG is between 31- 33% depending on where I position my batteries.

I couldn’t find a T-Bar that was for a 4” rail width so built it. Here’s how, if any one cares .

Once the stuffing tube and the flex shaft were aligned the way I wanted it with the coupler of the motor and epoxied to the transom I built the T-bar. Drill the hole larger than the stuffing tube to fit through so it doesn’t touch the tube, epoxy the T-bar to the side of the rails once the epoxy is set use a piece of electrical or hockey tape with a hole punched through with a piece spare stuffing tube of the same size as what’s in the hull and slide it over the tube and tape it to the t-bar, this is so the epoxy that is added to fill the hole from the opposite side gives a nice clean looking finish, add the epoxy let set and you have a perfect aligned T-bar.

Now just have to wait till the ice melts

    Ken

Dude that is a very clean and wicked looking build. I have the same hull(but with a different layup), which is in my avatar. My setup is very similar to yours, 9xl, 4500mah 30C poly rc's, and a hydra 240.
These hulls are getting more and more popular. A few months ago the only people i knew who had them were me and Ed Now there getting out there.
One thing you might want to do, is fill in the back of the tuned pipe drop section to make an easier tape, and also fill in the cowl lock drop down bits on the corners of the cowl.
You will like this hull, there wicked fun

      Tyler.

Thanks tylerm, good idea on filling the tuned pipe and cowl lock drop downs, I know taping these areas to keep the water out would be a pain. Might epoxy these areas flush for the tape is what I've been thinking.

        Thanks

Yea i used west systems and microbaloons for the cowl-lock bits and a bit of balsa covered in the same mix for the bottom of the drop down, thats why the back half of my cowl is painted white.
              Makes it MUCH easier.

You're a genius Tylerm!... how comes my large brain did not think at that one? I've been watching that thing with anger every time I taped it!

Really nice build Ken!... and really nice motor mount Peter!

I filled mine in with car bog and painted that area black, makes taping alot easier :)

Here is a pic of the hatch, I filled the corners with 30min epoxy and made a plate out of plywood and painted red then coated with epoxy to level it with the rest of the back hatch. The build is done now just added a few more pics on the finished build. Now just have to wait till our 4 feet of ice melts

At first I thought the motor mount was a bit bulky but having the ESC sit on top really makes for some clean wiring.

Plus in this profile shot it reminds me a of big block engine

                            I like it!

                              Update And Need Some Help

I ran the DF29 a couple days ago. I did change the position of the motor and Batteries so I have my CG set to 28% as opposed to 31% as before, but can move the batteries ahead to change it easily if needed. I know its not set up proper due to the amps (138) and only 41mph. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong but am asking your opinions and thoughts. I know this hull wants to rip but needs some tuning.

Right now I have my strut set at 2 degrees positive (up).

What I'm thinking is I'm fighting against the trim tabs, should I get rid of them?

what is a good cg for this hull?

what prop works best on this Hull for speed? I've tried a x642 and m445

I noticed that if I slow down in a turn it just hooks.

The eagle tree data is with a x640, x642, and m445 as the last session.

Here is a video of the run for you to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ogec...e=channel_page
