I'd love to start on one. Maybe when life starts to settle down a little! :)

Back to the build. I mounted my turn fin. 1/4" aluminum on the backside of the bulkhead. Tapped for 4mm screws.
Also added some flotation. I remember doing an experiment once and the amount that I put in isn't even enough to float a boat half the weight! Anything helps, I guess. Or doesn't it?Comment

I pack everything solid with white Styrofoam and cut it flush with the deck line with a hot wire cutter. I think it helps absorb energy (and lessen damage) when someone crashes into your boat.Bob Zola NAMBA 212

Crashes into your boat? When would that happen?I miss the Wednesday night bashes!
BTW, you are not the only one with a snub nosed Black Pearl. I figure if it is good enough for 2 national championships, it's good enough for me.
Still a lot of work to do. I have an older kit, so I had to make the midship and transom decking from scratch. It's just about ready for paint.
The cowl will look exactly like the P version. Going to paint the buck this week and hopefully pull some cowls next week.Comment

Thanks guys!
A little more work done on the Q. Finally in primer. I thought I had outsmarted it this time and sprayed epoxy primer without sealing the wood. BAD idea! I'll be sanding for decades. Tried to save time and will end up spending more.
I also finished the mold and pulled some cowls last weekend. The mold has the same contour of the deck, so they fit like a glove.Comment

I finally got my Black Pearl running well. It needed a deeper strut (1 15/16" from transom bottom to table) as well as a little strut offset to run straight without blowing off. I'm running a TenShock CZ112240 motor with a 2680 rated KV. Below is some data from a couple quick laps. Thoughts?

Hi Lohring. Good to hear that she's on the water! Those current numbers look reasonable to me. I think I was running ~180 average. Hopefully others will chime in with that prop and KV. I was still using an H5! Curious as to which way you had to offset the strut. Would love to see some photos!Comment

I put two #8 Stainless steel washers under the right side of the strut mount. I'll need to measure the angle. I also changed the deck and reinforced the hull with more epoxy fillets. If I build another one I'll get even more serious with reinforcement and change the deck around the motor mount. My version has the hardest drive coupler access possible. LOL
Thanks for the turn fin. It runs great. Pictures tomorrow.

Update with my Black pearl V12 P-hull 34in version with over 2 seasons now racing , Built it exact to the build sheets and with the plastic canopy and this thing just rips in P-limited. finally got the set up just right to be able to full pull the trigger and the boat just sticks to the water running 65 mph and becoming on of the top dogs in the class with few 1st place wins. One thing i have noticed this boat does like a lifting prop. Not being able to get the H5 or H6 prop I went with a modified cut down Octura 1450 and that really seemed to be the trick to keeping the boat down on the water. Nice job on the design SHOOTER!. I have been thinking of changing my Mod Leopard 2200kv 3660 motor out and going for the New Tenshock 2300kv for just a little bit more on the top end to staying completive and trying something new. My leopard 2200 is definitely getting a work out being pushed hard and after a good hard race motor temps 130-155f. In the end A good winning designComment

bahaha No just 159 mph. Actually, I can run my LSH at 76mph but ONLY if the water is perfect, there's zero wind, I'm leading, and nobody breaths on the drivers stand. If I exhale, blink, or even think light thoughts..........it's over. I don't run that setup anymore. The pucker factor was exhausting. I can't go that fast. I ain't that good.
For full P, MMEU should change the name to "Pearl Sport Hydro".
Still fiddling with Tyler's Pearl. He used to put a beat down on....well......anybody in truth. Our gang has gotten ridiculously good at P sport now. Takes a village to get that many guys to this level. My opinion at least.
Watching a whole heat of guys in the mid 70's that can actually handle running along side each other is fun. Sometimes it goes horribly wrong but those heats where everybody is on their A game are just........killer.Noisy personComment
