You could also try South River RC at http://southriverrcboats.com/. They have 5" rail mounted motor mounts. I went ahead and just epoxied a 540XL motor mount from here on OSE. It works great. BTW, after three false starts (wrong strut, wrong drive shaft, etc.) I am rebuilding mine. I should have it done by this weekend and will post some pics.

I finished painting my ThunderCat 31 today. I had never worked with fiberglass and actually had never painted something like this. I sanded the hull, used bondo on the inperfections, filled in the exhaust and antennae holes with bondo. Used Krylon white primer, then 6 thin coats of White Ace Epoxy, sanding with 800 and 1000 between coats. The yellow is Krylon Fusion. I used spray cans for this project. I have a new set of ThunderCat 31 Decals but now I am wondering if I might do something different. Here are the pics:

I can't believe it's the same boat! I put new decals on and sprayed clear coat. The first pic is the before pic. I will be running it tomorrow.

        Neu 1515 1Y & Swordfish 240A, CNC Machined X445 to start.

Lipo exploded when I pressed the throttle trigger! I was using new (Less than 5 charges) Gens Ace 4S 5000 Mah Hardcase lipos in Parallel with a Sword 240 and Neu Castle 15151Y. I ran it the day before with no problems. Some water did get in the batteries when I flipped it but I had read that water really does not hurt them. Dave Newland was there when it exploded and he said he has never seen or heard of a battery doing that. There was no signs of arcing on the parallel connectors nor on the esc.The motor appears to be okay. The esc was not damaged by the fire but the receiver wire was burned off. I am paranoid to test the ESC if it was the cause of the explosion. Any thoughts?

LIPO Exploded when I pressed the throttle trigger! I ran it the day before and everything was fine. I put it in the water yesterday, presssed the throttle and poof! I was running two Gens Ace 4S1P hardpack in parallel with a Sword 240 and Castle Neu 15151Y. The fire started in one battery. The motor and ESC look fine with the exception that the insulation on the receiver wires was burned off. I had got some water in the battery packs the day before when I flipped the boat, but I had heard that water does not affect them. Dave Newland was there when it exploded and he said he has never seen or heard of this happening. I am paranoid about testing the ESC if it was the cause of the explosion. Any thoughts?

Lol. Suprisingly, the hull is fine. I can replace the ABS Plastic Cockpit for $15. Even the receiver works. The only thing I lost was my BEC pack and the servo (And maybe the ESC). However, the black soot in the hull stinks to high heaven and getting it out will be a chore. Ya wanna buy a hull?

                    Hello Everyone
I am curious about run times with your tc 31's? I know it varies depending on setup and how your running it, but just looking for averages. trying to figure out what kind of setup to go with.
looking at this motor: T5682 Turnigy Pro Comp Brushless Inrunner Motor 1700kv, from the hobbyking website.
afraid if this is overkill? Looking for a balance of speed and run times,
and getting very confused over motor sizes, and KV ratings, Looking at 180amp or bigger ESC. and will go with two 2S or two 3S in series? whichever ones I need for this setup. I have been looking to find a website that explains the different sizes and kv ratings of these motors so I can learn more about them. My friends TC 31 just broke again and he is ready to go electric. we have got a list of everything needed except for the motor size? want faster than stock, but don't want to replace batteries every 2 minutes with charged up ones. And lastly would like to thank you guys for putting video's of your boats on youtube, I think I have seen most of them now, and it is very helpful to see it run, knowing what your setup is. This is my only way of figuring out motor size to speed comparisons for the thundercat. Thanks Doby and Lomdel for your vids! i really like that subhatch you did and hope you don't mind a "copycat" ( i should name my boat that when im done)
Thanks again. and please let me know if my motor choice is "too much". itching to start this conversion. Open to any suggestions,

Oohhh that sucks! Looking at beautiful new paint job one second, only to scroll down and see the burnt mess the next... Sorry to hear about it. Hope you can get it fixed quickly.
is there a way to keep this from happening?

Wow, that really is a bummer. Did you get it repaired? It has been awhile since I have been on the boards here. I think this winter will be the time to do the conversion on mine.

Does anyone know if a conversion kit has been put together and available for purchase for the thundercat?

I am glad to be back, I just spent an hour looking through other threads on some of the great work and boats here. Thanks to all!

Dave, no conversion kit have been made available and I doubt if anyone will go through the trouble of developing one for this ageing cat. I used a custom made flow-jet cut aluminium clamp-type mount. Attached is a pic of my TC31's inards again. I think it has been posted a few pages ago, but here it is again...

I just purchased a used TC 31 bare hull and plan to make an FE out of it. Tired of messing with jetting and trying to gain speed with a 54" home built weed whip deep vee.

Good to hear Bob, keep us informed on the progress. I am still trying to piece together my boat. Slow going for sure.

I wish there was a list of some sort that would allow one to simply purchase all the parts and pieces, models numbers and manufacturers etc. Some leg work on my part would help, I am sure...

There are a lot of pieces to come up with to finish a bare hull, don't want to strip the deep vee cause it takes real boat wakes so well.
