Well it is almost ready! I just have to program the Swordfish 240, waterproof and mount it, finish installing the water tubes, put the receiver in a balloon and mount and we are off! Here are some pics. I made a boat stand today for it. Installed the Tacon 4074. I put clear hard plastic windows over the air ducts and sealed the gas exhaust holes. Although I will rely on the subhatch for waterproofing, I thought that air flowing through the hatch might cause lift and/or drag since the exit holes are smaller the the intake holes. I decided to just waterproof the esc and mount it with double sided tape rather than enclosing it in a waterproof tray.
I plan on running it a couple of times then I will remove all the hardware and stickers, fix any blemishes and holes and repaint.
Guys, everyone on this forum has been so helpful to this newbie. I am getting my SV27 ready for the Winter Warmup in Scottsdale so watch out!
Have a great 2012!

Waterproofing Sword 240
Question: Should I cut the stock plastic covering off of the ESC, coat everything in liquid tape and then spray it with plastic dip or, should I leave the stock plastic on and just try to waterproof the exposed ends with liquid tape and black silicon caulk?Comment

I have waterproofed a few things for my surface vehicles. Are you referring to "Plasti-Dip"?
If you are using Plasti-Dip, I would just dip the whole thing, grab a few screwdrivers or skewers and hang it to dry over some paper towels or a rag you can toss. Let it dry for a day or two, Redip if needed, and let dry again.
Let it dry without touching for atleast 24-30 hours. I also use something called silicone conformal coating on the electronics first. I disassemble the servo, ESC, or whatever you are trying to protect from water and spray it and let it dry thoroughly.
Plasti Dip offers specialty rubber coating products that can be used for crafts, home improvement, automotive customization and more. Check us out today.
422C is a 1-part, acrylic-silicone blend waterproof conformal coating that cures to a durable, flexible and smooth finish. It is easy to apply and can be handled in only 10 minutes. It may be removed with appropriate strippers, or soldered through for repair or rework.
Hope that helps. I would like to contribute more to this site, as I am going to need a ton of help when I convert my Thundercat.Comment

If you plan on running the batteries in each of the sponsons right next to the motor, it will be fairly bow heavy and squirley. Try one next to the motor and the other in the back. Both batteries next to the motor are OK if the winds really blowing hard. If the conditions are dead calm, put them both in the back and it will air out nicely.Grand River Marine Modellers

Well, I finally was able to run her today. Tacon 4074, Sword240, Brand New Gens Ace, 4S2P 5000mah 40C (2 4S Parallel), Grim Racer 42x53. Motor connections (& possibly motor), fried after 2 1/2minutes. Had my GPS in and it only got to 33mph. Does not appear to be running too wet. Is a 10lb boat too much for the Tacon 4074?. Anyway, I will put my Castle/NEU 1515 1Y in next. BTW, it cornered perfectly, very nice. I am going to enjoy this boat I think.

See the mount in post #188 above. Standard OSE motor mount epoxied on strengthened floor. That would be the easier option. Other option would be a custom-designed, custom-made aluminium stringer-mounted clamp-type mount. They don't exist in the market out there (yet) and would be a once-off...Comment
