Hold on to your hats for this one...

I was going to install the 10XL in this rig of mine. I've been soldering electrical RC components for 10 years now. I started to solder on the bullet connectors, my hand touched a hot one, I jumped from pain, dropped the motor, it fell on its output shaft end, bent it and broke a magnet or something loose on the inside... See the (poorly focused) attached pic, and spot whats wrong with it...

Now I'll have to stick the 13XL back in and use the only option of propping up to gain speed.

I was wondering wether someone know if I can fix this 10XL with a new rotor and bearings. Steven, you got them somewhere? ...and how. The front bearing is jammed, so I can't use the OSE method of removing the backplate by tapping the front shaft...

My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

I have new rotor for 540 XL I don't want. You will need to get 2 bearings from OSE for it. The back plate will come off with a few taps with hammer and chisel. Because 540 XL does not have iron laminations in the stator, there is a chance dropping it damaged stator windings as well. In that case, the whole thing is trash.

But, I recommend going with Neu 1521 8mm shaft and watercooling. Just don't drop it...

Man what a bummer. I can get rotors, but AntronX's offer looks pretty good.

sorry about your motor man it looks pissed
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

I bought Antron's rotor, together with some new bearings and a free cooling jacket! One great guy... I also stumbled upon a guy who sold me a new 8XL, 11XL, 14XL and some unknown motor all for $100!! Now I have some options... If I repair the 10XL I'll have a 8, 10, 11, 13 and 14XL in my arsenal.

Meantime my props X642, M545 and S220 arrived as well as my 3S 4000mah 25C lipos and a thrust bearing. I am going to start experimenting as soon as possible (read one year old baby daughter) and will post results. I will try all these props with my current 13XL to compare apples with apples. Then I'll drop in the 11XL for fun!

45mph, yeah that's right 45mph!! That's what I got after about 6 passes with the 13XL running off 2x 3S 4000mah 25C lipos with the S220 prop. I am extremely pleased and now 50mph beckons...
The motor were 152F after those 6 passes which might be a bit hot, so maybe I should pitch down from the Prather's 1.6 to a 1.5 like the M545 or smaller like the X642. I think this would be the max that I can get from the 13XL and would try my new 11XL as soon as it arrive...
                To 50 and beyond.....!

As soon as I can find someone to come along to the loch, I'll stuff a video camera in his hands for a few shots. According to my LHS I'm the only guy running FE boats in this part of South Africa (Bloemfontein, Free State (Google that...)). One guy at work that might be willing.

The Etti blew the taped down sub-hatch clear off the boat! I ran a 13XL with 2x 3S 4000mah 20C lipos and a S220 prop when this happened (at great speed!) I presume its the too large prop, eh? I became greedy and knew I should bring it in for a temp check, but ....just one more pass.... and kaboom!

Luckily, the lipos are still okay and the rest of the electronics, don't know about the motor yet...

Man! Sorry to hear that, especially on the ETTI. Your motor should be fine. Might have been too much prop...

Thats how I blew my first 2 esc's. She was running super good, should have brought it in, but 1 more pass and boom!....
My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

I'll clean her up nice and then unfortunately its on to the shelf for a long time 'till there is some dough for a new ESC. I'll probably go for a Hydra 240 next... I just bought a lot of props, but I stupidly decided to start off with the biggest of them all...

                              Sorry to hear about your

You should read the thread on "Ripple Current" and how it BLOWS esc's due to not enough reserve power from your lipos...

You should really consider getting 2 more packs and going with 4x 3S packs,,,2 in series and the parallel the packs to the esc... This will give you more head room when pulling hi-amps with bigger props... The ETTi is most likely not the problem, these are good esc's.. It probably blew because of a ripple current caused by your packs not being able to deliever the amps needed with that particular prop...

Your packs are 4000mAh and only 20C... That means you have a 80A continous draw MAXIMUM!! You were most likely pulling 100-110+ amps with the 220 prop,, there is were the problem is... When the esc trys too pull more amps than the packs can deliever, you get "ripple currents" which will FRY any and all esc's.... To over come that add the 2 extra packs and you will have 160amps continous MAX.. That will give you the ability to prop up to the 220 and have less chance for "ripple currents" which produce..
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!

I have 2x 4000mah 20C's and 2x 4000mah 25C's. Can I serie a 20C and a 25C together and then parallel two sets to the ESC? That would theoretically produce 180A MAX. Would the Etti 150A be able to handle it?

Or should I just stick to the 25C packs (100A) and forget about the 20C packs?

I now understand the theory behind ripple current and why high volts and low amps don't mix...
