    ESC's: MGM X2 25035

Got some more work done over the weekend, as I explained in an earlier post I had to redo the motor mounts a couple of times. (just cut them in acrylic to begin with) I try to match the mounts to the specific build and the placement in the hull also. The aligning is a bit tricky! I usually spend a bit of time on that part. I have gone away from trying to measure inside the hull and and judge the distance. I now always complete both flex cables/shaft to the exact same length and use them as a guide to where the mounts need to be. That way I know they are in the same position. I then use what ever I can find to elevate the motors from the sponsons. I also don't complete the stuffing tube until I'm happy with the bend of the cable. In other words, I feed through the cable and make sure that it has the perfect bend, and can spin freely without too much slack, then I build the stuffing tube around it.

        A couple of pics...

The gluing part as usual....masking up the area, then sand and clean both motor mounts and hull with brake disc cleaner.
The process for gluing in the mounts was:
CA spot gluing to make sure mounts were in the right position, then a mix of epoxy with CF cuttings. Once it started to set, I then laid 2 layers of tight glass weave around the edges (roughly 1/2") and on top of that some tinted epoxy with a small amount of micro baloons.

Got some more work done over the weekend. I always try to get nice looking stuffing tubes :) I made a set wrapped in Carbon and a set with mesh wrap as well just to see what looked the best. Although I really liked the mesh wrapped I went for the carbon in the end. I also cut the lipo trey's but will post about them a little later. at the moment I'm working on a stuffing tube support (wanna try something new) but I'll have to see if it works first. I really like using aluminium on the stuffing tubes and it bends really smooth, and could be polished to a chrome finish for some fancy effects. As its a little soft, I would recommend that it gets some sort of epoxy coating to keep it firm.

Here are some images to keep the build rolling....

Looking great! Do you put a clear coat over the tubes or just leave as is? Also, i see you doubled up the motor mounts. I have the same mounts but worried they might be too weak. Do you double them up only to be able to fit that colored layer in between or do you do this to add strength as well?

                  Hi,
I don't usuall clear coat the tubes, as they come out quite clean. You could brush some epoxy on them if they needed I suppose. The double motor mounts are purely for strength, the fact that they have features cut into them is just a bonus. I would say the way I glue in the mounts hold better than a single mounts with a back support. Of cause everything is relative, but a friend hit a fence in a large 185 going 90mph and no mounts came out. If you have double mounts you should use them and support the sides of the mounts with glass or cf cloth.

Classic video. While seeing a boat like that crash hurts me in the feelings, the way he guy screams "SH!*" is too perfect.

Yup, that ain't good!!! NO! But that's the one I was talking about. Hurt my feelings too to see that happening. Angry sounding boat thou! I wouldn't recommend trying the same to see if mounts hold up thou. Anyway, I've been on the drawing board all night as my drawings didn't entirety fit the layout of the ESC's. They fitted but I wanted to move the ESC's in a way that I didn't have to lengthen the wires. The way it's setup now seems perfect to me. 5" or there about of wire directly from ESC to motor. Will post some pics later

Got some more work done over the past few days. As promised here are some pics of the lipo mounts. We decided to go with the Mystic theme for those since its a mystic hull, but I'm yet to do some color inlay and just smooth off the edges a bit (not that they are bad) just some tiny tiny fibers. I have also cut some stuffing tube supports (with the Mystic M logo) but they are a little too big for the very low alignment of the motors, so I have to rework them a bit. Sadly all of this takes a bit of time, specially when you have to redo a few parts. But its definitely coming together nicely.
