It puffed the esc caps so hard it busted my heat sink for them off and that was JB welded lol I didn't think to much obout the batt caps shorting out when I put the thermal switch in them if in fact this is what happened. I have another V3 and thermal switch that I can look at and verify . It was dark and I was tired when I did the install

That one run when you had the boat WOT, she was going nicely! Boat looks very stately in the water!
When you say cap board, did you mean the cap bank bank thingy that comes with the V3?
Too many boats, not enough time...

Yep , I'm not positive if it shorted but I just can't see any other reason . That's a lot of heat there.

And thanks ! I thought it had a great sport speed that one time

Anyone feel free to chime in here on the culprit here

Yup, the speed is good and the hull smooths out when there is enough speed, I think you are quite close to the mark with your strut, any adjustments would be minor.
I actually could not tell from your pictures, the caps that had been blown empty are the ones on the cap bank? The two on the ESC are just bulged?
Anyway, I remember back when the V3 just came out, there were many discussions on this extra "package" , someone opened it and said that in addition to the caps there is a Schottky Diode, is that the thing that had been blown apart?
I am not helping you at all, sorry, just my curiosity here. Thanks for bearing with my questions.

The diode was gone along with half the board, the esc caps are big time bulged ! The only cap that went hollow was the battery lead caps , just one of them. The HD shrink wrap I had over it melted off in a puddle lol the failure must have started there I believe .

Yeah, Good thing is that there is no burning marks , I actually wonder if this would have not happened had you been using a V2?

That's a trick question since the v2 has no batt lead caps lol

Yes, but I always thought ( just my uneducated speculation) that by adding a good cap bank with the original Three Caps on the V2, it would have been a better set up.
Again, this is purely my ignorant speculation.
Also, IMO, the cooling arrangement was better---although this is open to argument. There was an opinion that the FETs are better set up with the heat sink on the V3 as compared to the V2, but I had the V2 run pretty hot and all three caps bulged, still no melt down, I replaced those caps and then added a Cap bank, that thing was bullet proof....
I should stop saying anything since I am no expert, lol......

I agree . I just need to see how good stuff is before I ad to it electronically lol . I actually wasn't sure this esc wasn't damaged already when I modded the bottom of it I shaved into something really hard that caused some sparks to fly of my band saw .

This is the worst of the damage . A little burn mark lol

Not bad.... hate to ask you this, but , I hope there is no bad smell?
I have burned several motors and even that can be unpleasant and stays there for a number of weeks. On my maiden for my H&M Intruder S, the two FighterCat out runners were on the verge of burning up just after 4 minutes plus run. The smell was horrible, lol... and the motors weren't even completely burned yet.
( I changed to Scorpion motors and they are truly great)
