You might want to consider a .078" wire drive, motor drive shaft angle permitting.

        Cable and Paint

The Viking 1 build is back in the water. I epoxied the stuffing box(Brass tube) into the hull so that is fixed. I installed a gear box, with the direct drive setup I was running I was exceeding the Amperage rating of the V3 data logger. I am embarking on a new round of testing. I am starting with 6S and a X440/3 that should get me in to the 40s.
I got some graphics on the boat, photo below.

Introducing Viking 5 The fifth hull from the mold. Painted in a tri color paint scheme and waiting for some graphics and hardware. This hull is a pound plus, lighter that Viking1.
Viking 5 was painted with the Sherwin Williams automotive paint "Dimensions" I layed all three colors on wet so one color would blend with the next, with a small HVLP gravity gun. Photos below.

          Looks pretty good.

You might want to try wet sanding your mold with >2000 grit paper, and painting in the mold w/ colored epoxy. You can get a mush stronger, smoother, and more durable paint job than what automotive paint will ever give you.

Or you can just thin laminating epoxy even more with some heat and give the inside of your mold a VERY thin layer of epoxy, and then use spray paint over that.

What kind of layup are you doing?

Are you blotting excess epoxy away w/ paper towels?

            Lay up

            HI J.M.
I am stumbling along re-inventing the wheel. I am experimenting with different ways to lay up the boats. Because I don't know what others are doing.
Boat 1 is solid but heavy, I poured the excess resin in the keel area.
Boat 2 is OK, but a little heavy.
Boats 3 and 4 were disasters! Massive voids in the strakes.
Boat 5 "Viking 5" is good and more than a pound lighter than Viking 1.
I did Gel coat then 1oz. matt in boat resin. the next day I did a 6oz cloth in epoxy.

I am all excited about this process,( see link) but the narrative is in Portuguese.

Gel coat and epoxy don't bond well without a mechanical bond ( fiberglass matt ) so how are these guys offering gel coat epoxy hulls?
I don't want to spray gel coat in the workshop, which is in the basememt. So the boat yard is shut down, on account of cold weather, unless I can do all epoxy. Which I am considering.
