    Scratch 36" DeepVee

    Good Morning to all;
I am new here, I have a build project someone might be interested in. I drew up a set of plans and then built a 36" boat based on the Apache DeepVee race boat. With the hull fiberglassed I proceded to make a mold. The mold is waxed and ready to make a boat, but it is raining here. I don't spray gelcoat in my basement workshop because it smells up the whole house. Maybe tomorrow. I have a slide show of the build on my web site at http://www.dickieeng.com/Viking%20slideshow/index.html

I have some experience with brushed motors but would like to try a Brushless system on this one. A single prop set up. I Don't know how to choose a motor .
My 50" Apache (nitro) swings a 2" prop, my guess is this boat will need something in the 1.5" range to move it.

Nicely built hull. I have a 36" mono (Delta force) and I can recommend the following setups:

        a) Motor: KB 45 8xl or Feigao 9XL with water cooling(I tried both of them and working fine)
        Lipos: 2 X 2s (7.4V) in series = 4s1p (14.8V)
3/16 flex shaft and propeller shaft
Strut and rudder you can find something in OSE site (mine were bought from UK)
Propeller: Graupner 2317.45 or Octura 645,646
ESC: 200a (you can buy the Mystery one and coat it with epoxy 3M DP270 to make it waterproof and then make a cooling plate for cooling, please check the "Tips" page in OSE main site)
or You can buy anything else over 150A (waterproof and cooling are essential)

        Speed: +40 mph

        b) All same except the Lipos 2 x 3s in parallel 3s2p (11.1V) and propeller Graupner 2317.48
        Speed: around 30 mph

The above setups are with the minimum budget and are actual setups that I use.
They are not the best ones and the fastest. Based on info from very experienced members which you can find around here but I will give the resume', the following will give you better speeds:

Motor: 800 KV , Lipos 8 cells 29.6 volts (2x4s in series), Prop: 55mm OR
1350 Kv, Lipos 8 cells, Prop: 46 mm
You can workout anything between the two motor Kvs only the prop. needs to be calculated.

        OR
        Motor 1100-1800KV, Lipos 6 cells 22.2volts (1x6s or 2x3s in series), Prop:51-39mm
        Twin Cat 135, Sprintcat40 (single-twin), DF 35", Maritimo, Mean Machine, SV 27

          Many thanks

That certainly is a lot of valuable info. I have been looking at the Feigao XL and didn't know where to start with the wind. Thanks for all that info. If it will stop raining I will lay up a hull tomorrow, but it won't come out of that new mold for a few days, so middle of the week I should get a look at it. In the mean time I'll work on the deck.

            Progress

Friday; I sprayed 2 coats of PVA into the mold. PVA (poly vinyl alcohol)is mold release wax , wax in suspension in alcohol. it is sprayed with a paint sprayer at high pressure to insure small particles. It cleans up with water ! When I got the mold off the plug ( original boat) both pieces came clean with the garden hose and a paper towel and the spray gun cleans up with water too.
It is quite hard to get a good wet coat of PVA, some one called it a black art. I agree but, the gods were with me and I got a very nice job.

            It's Saturday;
I sprayed two layers of Gel Coat (white) into the mold and followed it with 3/4 oz matt in boat resin, in an hour the mold was hot. Everything went well.
There is a slide show of this build on my web site , here is a link to the slide show

More fiberglass tomorrow and then the long wait to get the boat our.

              Glass lay up

Sunday; More fiberglass, I put another layer of 3/4oz fiberglass matt in the hull in boat resin. I waited about an hour untill the resin was tacky but didn't stick to my finger then I layed up a layer of fiberglass cloth which will be the inside of the boat. All went well.
Now the hard part, waiting 5 days for the hull to cure and shrink slightly so it will come out of the mold with a minimum of damage to anything. This is the first hull out of a new mold, I don't expect it to be perfect.

I got the boat out of the mold today and it came out nice. So nice in fact that I am prepping the mold for another attempt soon. I even have photos.

How much does it weigh? What are your plans for the deck? You have put alot of time, talent, and thought into this for sure. Looks good!!!

This gets complicated, the hull is on the lines of the Apache ocean racer, before I even got the plans drawn my son says leave the bow up, I am looking for a boat to make into a sport fisherman, so I did. I plan to cut the bow down on this one and build an Apache like deck and cockpit with driver, navigator and Motor hatches, make a mold, etc. Then pull a hull out for my son, with the high bow. I got carried away with the resin the hull weighs 2.5 lbs. Do you have any Idea what a 36" hull should weigh?
Sure would have been cheaper to buy a boat, except I couldn't fing anything I liked at 36". It came out great, I am really pleased.

                            The Deck

                            Hi
I have the deck mock up almost ready for making a mold, and the hatch too.
I have another boat curing in the mold. I am crossing my fingers that this one is lighter than the first. photos soon
