Yep. Shipping for a fully built boat can be horrendous. That's why I like to build kits, or scratch build.
I haven't finished this one yet, but I've started another hull for a fellow club member, & I've just ordered the Winston Eagle (Lobster) from Mike for a bit of an experiment.

It's certainly an interesting looking hull.

The graphics arrived from Mike at Thunderboat Graphics. The first set went missing somewhere & Mike printed up another set. I offered to pay half the cost but he wouldn't hear of it, as customs had refunded his original postage. Top bloke that Mike.

So I've painted the engine bay black & added a bit of newspaper Litho Plate to the firewall to try & match the original. The engine was then epoxied into the bay.
Then I refitted the hardware & motor & added the waterlines.
I'm trying a straight 1/8 scale turn fin from Accu Tech on this one, as listed with the boat on the ML Boatworks site.

The graphics were then added to the boat.
There is actually a sort of machining pattern in the gold leaf of the graphics. You can see it in the close up pic especially if you zoom in a bit. Brilliant.

Yep. The exhausts turned out pretty good.
The next tricky job is the chrome bump rails around the hull & the sponsons. Maybe some Evergreen/Plastruct 1/2 round strip, painted chrome will do the trick.
Then it's the seat, driver, wheel, windscreen, & gauges etc.

Looking great I always loved that hull especially when it was the Chrysler Crew with twin Hemi's in it

I almost started to model this boat on the Chrysler Crew because of the twin Hemi setup. It was a toss up. But the bright red colour of the U-36 tipped the scales in its favour.

Here's the driver I got from Steve.
Apparently his name is Fredrick.
As you can see in the pic, he is feeling a bit out of sorts at the moment. But a bit of glue, paint, & a snifter of Brandy, & he should feel a bit better. The Brandy is for me by the way. It steadies my hand when it's holding a paintbrush.
I've also fashioned a bit of a seat out of some scrap balsa for him.
Also a wheel for him to hang on to, made from some tin for the cross, brass tube for the shaft, some thick copper wire for the rim & some split plastic tubing for the cover.

Freddy will have no excuses for bad driving, with all these luxury appointments in the cockpit
