I can't wait to get out a run a few of these boats. It would great to get together with some fellow Canadian boaters. What are you working on? I would love to see pictures, any chance you have a build thread going?

Wow 7" that is a lot,
But it sure sounds like you are covering all the bases.
I just thought from looking at the pictures there will be a lot of torque on those bracket,
Especially in a spin out being back that far.

I have a 48" mono that has the dual rudders and there is 4"7/8 from transom to rudders trailing edge,
But I still need to put the setup back in it for testing.

Hi Lenny, I am hoping once I am done things will be robust enough. Once it hits the water I will find out. I haven't weighed it, that's one thing I can't change now! I may go upto the 5850 before I go much further.
Hey savage, that thing is going to be a beast with the 2028, I will have to find something fast enough to keep up!

Lenny, I got the rudder brackets as long as I could because I was reading that the leading edge of the rudder should be placed behind the prop. That was some ago and the information is really conflicting. I may end up having to make shorter standoffs. I have so much to do that I am going to run them this way and adjust as required. What are your thoughts (and anyone else's) on the positioning of the two?

Well when I got into modding with my first boat that that is a Rio ep,
And now is modded to a brushless setup with a one offset rudder.
I did a lot of reading on the brackets and rudder placement,
And from what I have read.
The leading edge of the rudder should be inline with the leading edge of the prop,
To keep the rudder out of the thrust cone of the prop.
But I would test it as is,
And than mod things later on down the line to see what makes a difference for that hull.

I agree here. That is a fair amount to change now when so much is on your plate. Try it and see. Every hull is different and you have twin rudders as well. Just diagnose it later.

Sounds good guys, thank-you. Working on getting a monster savox servo to actuate the stinger adjuster. I am moving the servo over to the side of the hull and using a shaft on bushings (my spare lead teflon stinger bushings) and aluminum servo horns drilled out to transfer the load over to the servo. I am trying to all this with just the drill press, -20 out in the shop/garage. Need to prove it first to get stroke/travel correct. IF spring ever comes I will make a fancier looking assembly! Our weatherman is a compulsive liar in the extreme! Looking Forward to zero degrees, nice and warm to work outside.

Look for aircraft retract servo's. I have one here. They are slow but have killer torque. You really don't want fast in this situation.

I am working on machining the parts for the servo stinger control. The servo is massive and needed to be moved to the side of the boat so parts need to be made. If it wasn't for adding on these little trinkets I would likely be ready for paint. As it is I need the warmer weather to complete things. Seeing as the boat only came in primer I have no choice but to paint. I am making new cf motor plates as well. The back of the motor motor mount is being used to raise the esc up higher so batteries can mount in front of and part way down the sides of the motor. The boat was very nose heavy to start with and all the kevlar and cf reinforcement up front is making the cog a challenge. Going to make it pretty to. It's turning out to be a tall order for my first build. It will be one of a kind once done. Other builds I am planning will go much, much faster. The details on this one and incorporating it all together is taking forever. I just started physio from my back operation and it's a real drain on energy levels! I need to get back to full building strength! More photos to come in a few days.

Thanks Shawn, I opted out of the retract servo as it doesn't need to be fast for the adjustment but I wanted a servo with massive torque and the ability to hold position on hard acceleration so that's why I got one that's quick to. I am hoping the 12 bit processor will have the resolution for micro adjustments versus pulling it out of the water and making a 1/4 turn or so adjustment. I will be able to adjust just how fine the movements are by the linkage inside the boat. I may put the servo on a switch, once I am happy with the strut adjustment given water conditions I can turn it off and lock the stinger down. I am hoping to set the trim tabs up so I can run loose downwind and then drop them some for the return run into the wind. That's about as far as I see them being useful in the beginning. It will all be found out on the water!
