Well, you'll have to wait for the video... haven't mastered the art of driving and filming at the same time yet.

Ran some dial-in time yesterday. We had a BEAUTIFUL day here, with nice calm water.

For the tuning time, I just ran an X435, then went down to an X430, and finally ended up with an X632. NONE of these props are what I'd use for SAW runs, but they were more prop than the current setup could handle, so more than enough for now.

The boat seems to run nose-high, even with the CG up around 32%. I moved the strut down to where the bottom of it is just a tad lower than the sponsons, and the boat still seemed to be lifting the nose. I will continue to play with that. I may need to explore the idea of a flat-bottomed strut, like the stingers that the twin guys are using on these, to help extend the ride area back a bit. I'm not sure this hull was designed to have the prop so far out the back without them.

At this point, there is NO WAY I can put down full-power. Boat just hops around too much. I need to get some testing time where I am not so afraid to let her rip (and where I actually have a recovery boat available). I do see potential there, just need to find the sweet spot.

I was thinking that, perhaps, I should mimic having the long stingers with flats on them on each sponson, to act as "trim-tabs"?

The boat has a really weird "crabbing" that it does currently. I can see this is going to be VERY sensitive to weight balance side-to-side. When you first launch, the hull really drags over to the left. Almost looks like it's going to flip over. Then, as you get a little faster, the hull "crabs" to the left. The back end pulls over to the right and the nose points to the left. Seems to straighten out once you really get it on plane. I suspect that the rudder blade made be too draggy for this little hull.

I still question whether the rudder might be better centered, but everyone keeps telling me that this will negatively impact speed. Going to fab a much thinner rudder blade for testing and see if this helps.

Definitely not "plug and play", but that's part of the challenge. 80mph seems pretty far off at this point, but we'll keep pushing for it. If people can get the 25.5" Delta Force monos to go 80+, I don't see why this can't can't do it. We'll see....

Darin, have you ever had a HPR or MHZ hull?

I love this little cat and the potential it seems to have. I was surprised you had the nose lifting with the cutout for the motor. Strap a camera to your baseball cap and let's see some video!

It's hard to say without seeing it, but the pre-plane behavior may just be a condition of the hull design. A lot of people are concerned the first time they run a MHZ mystic or HPR Tencara style hull because they're tough to drive until you get them up to a decent speed. It's just an effect of the dihedral sponson design and low amount of lift at low speeds. The sponsons will "rudder" the boat until they really come up out of the water. It's not the best demonstration, but you can kind of see it when I take off in this video. Notice that a throttle it enough to get it to leap up out of the water...otherwise it's almost impossible to steer it where you want it to go.

Update. Sorry guys... no video or pics, but I'm excited about this setup...

I had some open water at this Saturday's race to try out a couple of things with the Mystic. Only change from previous is that the rudder blade is now about 1/2" longer than before.

First, I ran her with an X632 and took it to full throttle. Keith, Jay, and some others were right. You just have to get it up on step and she stabilized right out! Getting her there isn't always fun, especially with a prop that "bites", but once on line, she's smooth.

Took her out again with an X435/3. Even faster...

Then put an ABC 36x55 on it. Not sure if it was faster, but it looked faster.

Tore up the after bearing in the strut so had to stop there.

I'll get her fixed up again and try to get some video. I feel comfortable taking this to a SAW event, now that I know she'll at least run down the course. Fine tuning from there...

I'll download the data from the ESC this week and see what kind of amps I was pulling. Based on the temps, there is room to push it... quite a bit of room.

First goal would be to break the 65mph N2 Cat SAW record... Second goal would be to go for 75mph... If that can happen, I'd be thrilled. The ultimate goal would be to break 80mph. That would be amazing. Might not have quite enough motor for it, but we'll see. A similar power system pushed my 1-Cell Hydro to 74.6... and that was using a 120A Car ESC...

This is going to be fun...

Not until November in LA. Maybe I'll take some time and get some color on this in the meantime!

Would actually help me to be able to see it to line it up out on the SAW course. Thing is TINY way out there!

I choose to drive the boat with both hands... :)

It hasn't really seen much action. Just some quick test runs in between heats at one of our early heat races.

The real running begins on November 5th...

Darin, I see you tore a bearing up in the strut. I was warned before I tried bearing in my s tuts that they won't last. Looks like that may be true, so I did something different. I bored the hole deep enough to stack six bearings side by side, High speed rubber sealed bearings. I have no idea how much run time I have on this setup, but I can assure you its A bunch. I have not changed them yet...

                              LA SAW Update:

Well guys... My sweet 25" Radtek Mystic is now the NAMBA N2-Cat SAW record holder!! 70.3mph 2-Way average!! Fast pass of 72.xxx.

That's just scratching the surface too, I feel. I think over 80 should be possible with the power I currently have, and I may work on something a bit more for the next event.

The boat drove BETTER than I ever anticipated, and I had high expectations to start with. Once you nursed it up onto a plane, you pointed and just throttled on! AMAZING how this thing runs!

I think I'm going to make a few hardware updates to get it a bit more robust, and then put a real paint-job on it, and get it all ready for the next SAW event. Was WAY too much fun!

Kudo's to Radtek and Keith Bradley Boats for putting out such an awesome hull! Great design, super nice layup, and straight as an arrow!!

Going to be ordering a second one to build into a 1-Cell, M2-CAT for the next SAW event as well...

                              Little boats RULE!!

I'm still waiting to see if anyone captured any video of the boat running the traps.
