Question, if you're spending all this money on a toy boat, why are you not spending some to save your life? Don't go swimming after boats, buy something to retrieve them with!!

Also, you can add more protection to the receiver with CorrosionX or some other waterproofing liquid.

I use them in open topped gas boats and recently switched to a little bigger box that will hold the lipo as well and allow you to see if any water is in the box.
      Oscarel,

MgM says they are fully repairable regardeless of water protection level...I checked

Good to know your experience about traxxas boxes...I am also in RC cars, I have some 20 vehicles, some of them are waterproof. Traxxas Summit is the best of them all concerning waterproofness...I have been submerged With the whole car, been over the mud, lakes, creeks...and nothing. That's why I have choose Summits box.

Yes oscarel, I have greased blue rubber seal also :)

Thanks for pointing out the details :)

I also have a boat retreiving tug boat...but I like to swim. That was a completely safe swimming adventure...on the same beach we all (whole familly) were swimming whole day.
But I appreciate your care :)

This has been fun to read.
When I have mastered boat building I will step into a build like this.
I would add that a saddle at the rear of the motors would have been a good idea.

Twisted, mentioning a rear saddle as being a good idea is a valid post. Posting massive pictures of your current new build adventure is not such a good idea. Common man, enough.

Thanks guys for the advice, but I am already sure I won't do any rear support for Lehners.
I have used double motor mounts epoxied together and I am pretty confident that will do. I believe it is better than it is needed. I can take the motor screwed for the motor mount in my hand and lift the whole boat that way.
                We'll see :)

The rear mounts won't be the problem, the motor case around the shaft bearing might be. I have recorded 4 G's in rough water. That's a lot of overhung bending on the Alum. motor case at the bearing over and over and over and over.

Ok. We'll see. I am ready to try. Those Lehners are such a fat piece of aluminum that I cannot imagine something could bend it in any way

I too use waterproof rx boxes. I have seen boats glitch because of a single drop of water on the rx, risk aversion can play into rc too so im not the only one trying to reduce uncertainty it seems.

I hope the maiden goes well this is the nicest electric mystic I have ever seen, hope to see more boats from you down the road.

Still looking forward to seeing this one finished. Yamadori. It seems that you will definitely have yours out on the water before I finish mine. Very nice work!

                              My 2 cents:

Where did you gather the idea of people running their props outward? Was it perhaps from I/C boats? The gas-powered guys spin them that way because they have to direct the exhaust out the side of the motor that faces inward. They can only change direction by swapping motors, which would aim the exhaust straight into the side of the hull. I'm much more familiar with electric than gas, so this could be all lies, but I think it's true.

Rear motor mounts are not necessary if the main plate is strong, I've ran large motors in a boat this size without rear mounts. They are however beneficial in a hard crash. Consider that in a hard crash, even if the mount doesn't come loose, the force can try to push the mount through the hull, and it can/will damage the hull in some cases. Even with the strongest motor mounts you still have a fulcrum and lever effect if the boat lands hard and suddenly stops upside-down, backward, etc. Having the motor mounted in two spots (front/rear) can help, but of course nothing is truly bulletproof. For the kind of running that you will be doing with this boat (I've watched your incredibly well-shot and edited videos!), you will likely never experience anything of concern.

The rear supports that someone else posted in this thread would do very little without the motors actually attached to the mounts, other than to help overcome the force of gravity while the boat is sitting on the shelf.

If it's worth doing do it right. The rear motor mounts are easy to make and just as easy to install. Why wouldn't you install them is the question.
