I hope its not just me but there is no way I would cut that hatch...hatches are already one of the weakest parts of the boat. you'll weaken it even more, let alone the fact it will be a pain in the arse to cut it clean. alot of high dollar electronics between that thin clear plastic and the water.
    just sayin

Lots of people. It's the number on complaint about that hull. If you are doing that style windshield you should find a way to brace it from the back (tubular frame, ect)

Well like I said it's an idea I have had. I like to see in for my own reasons and securities. I have not and will not cut anything until I'm sure it will work and be reliable. That's why I also asked if anybody ever had an king of shaves windshield blow in, most likely from a wreck, and if I did cut the hatch I was going to have the look of six pieces of windshield and five columns. Have you know anybody to have a failure on a windshield?

Well it looks like I may just go with the decal or paint. I thought about making a form fitting frame out of aluminum to go on the inside and secure with a lot of small bolts, really give the beefy look. Not racing but I don't want a tank either. So maby play with this idea later if I could obtain just a hatch.

I wasn't worried about a clean cut, I thermo formed it and it was going to be mounted on the inside

Sorry, kong if you were talking about the clean cut on the hatch, yes it would be a challenge to get a precise cutout. That's part of the fun for me, building.

Sorry Keith I didn't get your post before I replied, so ignore the question about knowing anyone, you gave me a good enough answer, thanks! Yep decals or paint unless a second hatch shows up

I'm using

I would try to get a spare hatch to play with first.

I haven't asked Ben if I can get just the hatch, I know he is busy and I don't want to bother him until I know I can make it work the way I intend. Any of you know if receiving just the hatch for the cf shocker hull is possible? I am trying to stay with the industrial machine look. I messed around with vacume forming and hot setting some pet and acrylic today, I'll post some pics soon. Just remember it's rough and I am at the trial stage so a finish product would be more precise.

well like i said before if i can get another hatch i think i will do this at a later date, as for now i am just going to work on the mold. i can make the parts now and just do the hatch work later. i was looking at the pet first, that is what is in the king has for a windsheild. in the pic you can see how thin and flimsy it is,

so i found some acrylic .100" in the garage. tryed to vacume form it but too thick and i didnt want to get that involved, well after a couple trial and error atempts i found the best way was to pre heat it in the oven and then press form it

boat windshield pics 003.jpgboat windshield pics 001.jpgthe first one i pre heated well got the oven up to 350 and thought 450 would be better, well not 275-325 best. too much heat and the material started to boil internally. not too attractive with bubble glass. so i found a better idea for that piece, hope my wife likes it.

this is what the screen will look like, will have to be trimmed and drilled but you can get an idea of what shape it takes. i will go with a one piece windsheild for the final piece. this is just a half piece for trial. and in the pic you can see that pain in the a** cat i have for help! thats why he ended up with a acrylic hat, he is always getting in the way!
