That's some insane speed. I don't know what this leopard will do, but if I get 60mph outta this setup in race trim I would be very pleased. Hopefully at that speed its a bit more forgiving.

This part seemed to take forever.
I made battery trays for the 4 4s1p pack so they can mount to the outside of the rails. Keeps the wires to the batteries at an acceptable length. To do this I did a pretty basic trick. I used an old mold a club member had give me as a plug. Wrapped with with a bit of box tape ... nothing sticks to it. The plug is 16" long and I needed 22" rails so I made 3 trays with fiberglass and west systems (two layers), joined them together with fiberglass, and than added some carbon fiber to make them a bit prettier. I than just cut them to fit with the dremel and added some white plastic railing to take away any sharp edges and clean it up.Comment

The rails will be bolted through the existing holes from the hardware I added before.
I also made up a esc plate out of carbon fiber so it can mount right above the motor.
Up next ... gotta put the stuffing tube in permanently and add some cf to the hull to cover the water tubes.Attached FilesComment

Looking good. I ordered a couple of the Turnigy 5692's from Hobbyking. I've got one in my Stryker now but I'm waiting for a 1/4 stepped down to 3/16 shaft, hopefully will have it next week. I got the 1320kv one to run on 6s2p. I stuffed the lipos under the foam floatation in the sponsons to keep the inside clean as it's going to double as a gasser when needed. What prop were you planning on using? I'm gonna start with an X455 and hopefully work up from there.Comment

I am not sure on the props yet. On paper the 5692 is equal to the 2215 so I am hoping I will be able to turn a x457/3 pretty easily in heat racing trim. I'd like to get up to a x460/3 but we will have to see. For straight lines, the 2215 can spin a 70mm 2 blade prop on my Lazer 45 so probably about the same.Comment

running a 5692 1320kv on 6s2p with a big prop may not work so good....NAMBA20...Caterpillar UL-1, P-Spec OM29, P-Mono DF33, P-Spec JAE, Aussie 33" Hydro-LSH, Sprintcat CC2028 on 8s, PT SS45 Q Hydro, PS295 UL-1 power, OSE Brothers Outlaw QMono 4-sale, Rio 51z CC2028 on 8sComment

I really have no idea what to expect. The 5692 I have is 1090 KV and a Y wind motor, which should help. That 1320 Kv is a delta which usually is not happy with that much wheel.
I have no idea on this motor. I keep waiting for someone to post a setup with my motor and some results, but I really have nothing. There is one guy on YouTube last time I checked, but it ran like poop with totally the wrong prop for his setup.
I am really hoping for a x457/3 or x460/3 ... that should get it up to 60-63mph which is what I want.Comment

Ya ... it be smoking ... but not in a fast way!

Got a quick run in. I'm still waiting on stepdown shaft so I used the smallest 1/4 prop I have, voodoo 6717/3. 181 amps Max with speed of 41 before it stopped reporting to dashboard. I'll get exacts when I get home. This was on 6s2p.Comment

That will do a lot better with less wheel ... but it must have some power and durability to spin that much prop and not self destruct.Comment

Been terrible at posting pics. Have a pile at home I need to upload.
Weather has been good in Toronto... ponds are open, which has been great ... little chilly this week.
I had the boat out and been pretty impressed. No long runs yet, just checking temps, plumbing, tracking, and all that boring stuff.
The pond I have been messing around in is really too small for the boat to unwind it, but I did get one run in the open water just to get an idea of were I stand.
Boat runs 58 mph with a mod x457/3. That was two quick runs and the lipos did not reach operating temps so there is likely 5-10% more just in that. Weather was cool and I just did a super short run so I can say if the motor "runs cool" ... that being said, it seems ok and is ready to be pushed a bit.
Nice starting off point ... I think low 60s in a heat race setup is within reach.Last edited by jimi911; 03-30-2012, 01:10 PM.Comment
