    Blackjack 26

Just picked up a new blackjack hull & hatch off flea-bay. I've always wanted one, and was gonna purchase one as my first F.E. boat, but opted for the supervee instead.(I was turned off by the steerable outdrive) So I had a strut from a proboat thundercat and speedmaster rudder. I cant decide whether to use the H/K typhoon 500 outrunner(1800kv) or the castle 1512(1800kv). I purchased both, plus I picked up a proboat 45amp esc. and have a couple of turnigy 120's I can use as well. Also ordered a pair of flightmax 5000mah 40c 2s lipos. This will be a 4s for fun/5s for more fun setup!

I'm also using a 3/16 flex cable inside the stock stuffing tube w/o teflon.

What 3 blade prop are you running? In regards to the motor choices...I'm sure the Turnigy 500 is lighter than the 1512 so it may be more beneficial when running 4S. But if you're going to run 5S, I'm sure the 1512 will run much cooler than the TT 500.

I will probably end up using something like the x642. The one in the pic is a grim 40/57/3

          Hey Scott,
I ran the castle 1512 1800KV (the one they have on sale) on my blackjack and got it up too 54.3 MPH on a chip carbon fiber 51 mm prop. I Just got my x648 prop that i need to put on and see what happens. here is the video

The motor ran really cool. At the time the cooling jackets where out of stock but i just got one so i think that should also bring the temps down even more.

Finished up the blackjack with a ul-1 motor(still awaiting the typhoon outrunner and castle 1512) and ran it today with 2-3300mah 4s packs in paralel (still waiting for my turnigy 5000mah 2s 40c packs to arrive). First run with the grimracer 40/57/3. The boat would not even plane!( I think because the thundercat strut is really thick around the prop shaft and wouldn't allow enough water around the blades) Then I threw on an m445 and that sure enough did the trick. I was a little weary of using a 45mm prop with the ul-1 motor, but ran it for 3-minutes and motor temp was 78 degrees! No gps yet, and it was a little choppy so I didn't get to really wind it out but its a little rocket!! My guess is mid forties with this setup. More results to come.

The 40x57 is more for lighter riggers and such. Been there....and tried that!

It was one of the smaller props that I had. I was suprised the blackjack wouldn't plane with it though.

Yeah the problem is the pitch for how small the diameter. Plus that boat may be a little heavy with 2 4s pack in it.

Hey Scott, you may want to try and get a tapered washer or something for the front of that stru also. Looks like that flat edge might be causing some drag.

The strut is a little beefy for the blackjack!

Ran the blackjack again today and got a gps reading of 44mph. Boat was dipping to the right at slow speeds in a straight line. The only thing I changed was cutting 3/4 inch off the rudder and slight strut adjustment. Anyone know what might cause this? I'm stumped!

Cutting 3/4" off the rudder. Sounds like you have a case of torque roll now. A longer rudder will help combat that.

Made some changes to the blackjack. I flipped the rudder bracket around to move it out of the prop wash. Got a smaller strut to accomodate smaller diameter props. (now the hull looks like swiss cheese!) And am gonna try out the 1800kv typhoon outrunner with a proboat esc. Should have my 2s packs in a couple of days and gonna give it a try then!
