Yea that gear system gave me a little inspiration for the gearing setup i made and i saved a lot of money doing it. The only money i had to spend is for the gears and the shaft and the shaft bushings(about 20 bucks). The new motors were only 70 bucks for two and i think i can get 3kw out of each one. For a nue in direct drive i would want a 400-500kv and above 6kw total and i would need a monster 200amp hv esc and that is just way out of my price range right now since i am a college student. For the escs i already have a oemrc 100amp hv esc so i thought i would get another one and use those. I am hoping to have less than 500bucks(or less) in it and break 60mph+ when i am all done.(without batts)

I dicovered a new way to watercool the mount and escs and everthing in the boat that is aluminum. Aluminum solder!!!

I fixed the piece that broke on the first run and i should be able to test it again today! (if it stops raining!)

Undersood. Did you get gears from berg gears? Are yours shafts supported with ball bearings? Just curious.Cant wait to see it!Trust me when i say I know all about funding an education especially at a school with over 50,000 undergrads. Dont let the pretty girls distract you too much though. LOL. Let me ask you this what makes you think yo needed two motors to do it on a gear. I bet that one kb properly geared will push that boat. U could save some money. If I were you I wouldnt worry about hp thats whats left over after the work is done. Torque and thrust created by the prop are the main concerns. we talk hp cause its esy to put a figure on. If you have a datalogger you can figure out torque after you know what your amp draw is.Im pushing a prather 40" quite nicely with one kb and an x457 quite nicely.Im not trying to talk you out of anything but less harware is less weight and you can get more benefit out of your power. I wouldnt look to turn a gas prop just because thats what was in it with fe u may be able to push the boat faster with a smaller prop with a little more pitch. Just something to consider.

I got them from servo city! They are really nice quality and they have tons of parts for all types of linkages. They have delrin and nylon and some brass 6mm pinions which i looked all over for last year for the kb45 and found them there.
When i have it at full power i might make the gears double wide so they will be less likely to strip.

Edit: And i guess they have aluminum now too! :D

Oh yea i know the kb45 will push it really well. I just had the thought of two to one and wanted to see if i could because i have not seen it in a boat this size before. Like a challenge kinda. I am less concerned with the speed and all that than just if i can get it to work right. I see tons of boats with just direct drive and it is kinda the same old same old. I probobly could get more speed and keep everything simpler but it isn't as interesting to me.
I am thinking about just using 6s and getting really cheep ebay escs.

Try a little thread lock but not the permanent stuff. I really dont like set screw collets I brought one from a member and the set screws stripped now he doesnt remember the sale. Go with octura and save yourself the headache

This stupid thing is the problem.

It is threaded on the one side so i can't make one strait and on the other side it is solder in so i drilled and tapped holes for set screws and they started slipping so i tightened them and it stripped because it is brass. I am gonna try epoxy and if that doesn't work i am gonna buy the one that has a square end.

Can you silverbearing solder the shaft in place? Feed the solder through the set screw holes.
