That is pretty cool! looks like you could have used bigger pontoons and 3 or 4 of them and did away with the styrofoam but I am sure that is a lot cheeper alternative! The crane kinda reminded me of this rescue boat with a hydraulic platform that lowers to recover injured racers http://www.fireandmarine.com/id8.html
This one has a little crane to pick jetskis and put them on the deck. http://www.fireandmarine.com/id5.html (it's the first two pictures)

I would have loved to have bigger pontoons, but I was working with what I had. I built that boat for next to nothing, and it served it's purpose very well. The cool thing about the styrofoam underneath, was as the boat went down when we carried weight, the foam would touch the water, and the boat would act like a dock then. Bu with no weight, it cleared the water, and we could go full speed.

If I were to make one from scratch, I would make heavier and bigger pontoons with flood chambers, maybe 5 per side. This way I could ballast the boat anyway I want. You should have seen before we used to 55 gallon drums in the wheel house for ballast (with pumps to empty) I lifted a dock, and the back of the boat came out of the water.

The arms acted like ice breakers when I lowered the tips into the water. The ice would ride up on the arms and split. I went through up to 3" ice. We could also raise and lower the arms to help break the ice.

I also wanted to make the boat amphibious, this way I could lift a dock, and drive right up on shore with it. But that would have been difficult. Oh well, sorry to hijack the thread :)

That is pretty cool! and i know what you mean about just using what you have. It makes everything a lottt less expensive! I would have loed to see the back of the boat lifting out of the water!

And don't worry about the thread hijacking i don't think a ton of people were too interested in the build! lol They might be tho after i make some revisions? I am gonna put in 3 or 4 motors inline in the summer!

So do you think the dual drive(into one) is cost effective? Or would a single drive be better?

For this boat i think it is because of the motors (3kw each) i have. I spent 30 bucks on each motor and i don't know of any motors you can find for under 100bucks that you can get 6kw out of. So if i go to 4 motors (and switch to the 1400kv version) on 6s with 4 of the really cheap 200amp esc's i will be able to get 12000 watts and only have 240 bucks plus shipping in the esc's and motors. :) when a Aquastar 240 esc alone costs 200 bucks and can put out a little over 10 kilowatts.

That is what I was thinking. I wanted to do this with a large scale plane I have, but wasn't sure just how efficient it would be over a single motor.

I know axi makes or at least did make a motor that was 2 out runners to one shaft! The only downside is you shouldn't run it with bothe the esc connected to the motors and but only one motor running because the motor that is off acts like a generator and I fried an esc like that! Oops!
