PSA- YANK THAT EFFIN SERVO!

It will fry the BEC, just sitting with the battery hooked up.

Not just fry, but FRY! The Servo was HOT.

This happened on the bench.

First Photo; the new Turnigy 120a ESC, with burnt BEC.

That is fast! and a bummer about the esc! I am gonna switch out my servo out as soon as i get a new motor and esc in there.
... but it sparkles!! hahaha

I'm now SOLD on using external BEC's with these cheap ESC's. Every setup from now on is going to get an external BEC.

Just noticed the hull is cracked... same as the other guy's hull. Same place, even with a motor support. All the way around the motor is cracked. That's just after 2 runs.

The fiberglass doesn't feel right. Feels brittle.

It's at the side of the motor mount. The hull flexes causing the crack. You can move the motor towards stern and see what I mean. The motor mount is too short width wise. When it torques from spinning the prop, it cracks the hull between the mount and the side of the sponson.

Really crappy design. Obviously hasn't even been tested.

OK, I've got the fiberglass and the cloth ready to do some dirty work. If I can get my finger in the rubber gloves.

I'm going to take a different approach in hopes that it will help those who have not cracked their hull and don't want to remove the stock motor mount.

I'm simply going to re-enforce the stock mount and the hull around the mount with fiberglass. This should be sufficient and provide a simple solution most anyone can do.

You could maybe epoxy in some carbon tubes perpendicular to the motor mount rails at the front and back sides that span the width of the center section.

Course it might not be a bad idea to put a nicer mount in there when you replace the cable & 'stuffing tube'.

Yeah, but I'm just going to lay a few pieces of fiberglass to "beef it up". The stock motor mount is much more rigid than you would think. I'm actually OK with staying with it. It does the job well, it just needed to be wider and with some re-enforcement underneath before it was installed.

I really should get a job doing Chinese boat QA.... but don't they spell Quality Assurance - FtheUSA?

OK, the fiberglass is laid and curing. It looks like it's going to work. It feels MUCH more rigid than it was. I laid a few small strips along side and one over the motor mount. This should stiffen it up enough to prevent cracking.

I sanded the bottom of the hull and wire brushed the cracks then filled them with CA glue. The next step is to lightly sand the CA glue with 1000 grit finishing paper to make it as smooth as the hull. Even small water disruptions can tweak handling in weird ways.

OK, going to go back to 3s and get the COG and handling where I want it before attempting 4s again. The ESC is the stock Genesis ESC, so should work with the stock Genesis FSD motor. =)

Since the Genesis was stable with this motor on 4s, there should be no problems running this little guy on 3s while I get it sorted.

I may regret not hooking up a BEC, but we'll see. New servo, so should be OK.

Notice how far back the batteries are to get a decent COG. It's actually about 1/2" too far forward, just stuck and can't push them back in the hull any further.

I didn't feel like messing up any measuring devices, so I guessed on the resin mix and guessed way too hard. It gelled up on me when I was half done, so the left side in the photo shows a piece of fiberglass that harded before it was pressed in place. Oh well, the sides are very well supported now. No flex from the motor.

HEY!

At least your workin on an RC boat.

I would think the CG would change from 3s to 4s because of a change in weight and an increase in speed/power.
