    Project Surge Crusher!

    Surge Flusher?

Wow, stopping the flow of giggles, "did they actually do that" and "WTF were they thinking" comments in my head with the occaisional woman popping in the garage to ask, "what are you laughing so hard about?" has made this afternoon interesting to say the least.

Guess what? The Surge Crusher I ordered on a whim arrived today! Ahead of the two other orders I've been waiting on since June... but that's another rant. WTF are they doing in Zurich anyway?

So here is the boat (see attachments) it was shipped in the original box that had been turned inside out! The staples are still in tact, so I'm trying to figure that trick out...

Back to the boat. Made my Joysway. They need to hire an engineer, has been engineer, wanna be engineer or perhaps even just a kid who plays with boats and knows how to spell engineer! Many happy engineer boat make good you for! In chamber the happy water, transparent sound make giant fast.

All sarcasm aside, I think we can make a nice little boat out of these parts!

    Pics to follow!

    Photos!

Charming Race Service... I've been in racing for many years... Never met a "Charming"... well... anything in racing! (besides the pit girls).

NOTE* this boat is equipped with a "Super Brushless" motor. Beware of the "Super".

Did you want piece number 9203 or E026?

Oh, the servo with fake screws molded in the top. Ok. That one.

OK, the wood isn't sealed, so I'm going to start by removing the wooden parts and coating them with polyurathane.

          Then this drive setup...

Fortunately I ordered a Jeff Wohlt 078 wire drive. Let's see how we can make it fit. =)

I may just order a full stringer motor mount and replace the complete motor mount thingy. We'll see if I can heat it up enough to get it to come loose easily.

I like the fact that there is no stuffing tube. It just adds excess weight anyhow. Cable whip should add to the centrifugal force of the motor and help spin the prop. Fake molded screw in the servo should help keep the weight down too!

I think cable whip might have something to do with the motor mount cracking the hull!

The motor mount is SOLID. The hull flexes less than my Apparition does and it holds a Castle motor & cooling can just fine. With the cable being loose and the coupler not positively connected to the wire, I think it beats itself to death!

              Here's my new drive setup!

              Jeff W Piano Wire Drive:
              http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=jw-wire062

              Octura 062 Hex Coupler:

              Octura 642 prop:
              http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=octsb-x642

I'm going to stay with 2200kv on 4s, but use the Turnigy 120a ESC and the XL motor from the Genesis. Maybe even a 600 Heli Motor.

              This thing should rip!

Yep sure did! I have more to order now too! Feel like putting together a wire kit for the Surge Crusher and the Osprey? They both use 3/16 hard shafts and I need wires for both of them.

Here's some photo updates, she is ready for the water!

Since I'm waiting on parts, I used some HOTR parts I had here that will accomodate the wire drive when it comes in. The 4mm stuffing tube/liner and strut fit right in with a 5mm to 4mm hex coupler. The whole setup with rudder was like $25 when I ordered it as a spare a while back.

The final config is just over 5lbs with two 3s 25c 5000mah batteries, 2175kv inrunner, T120a ESC and 6mm bullet connectors. The stock servo might have to go. It doesn't center well.

Full run in this morning, almost 10 minutes, 42 mph on 3s2p 25c 10kmah.

Weird though, I have to trim the rudder almost 15 degrees to go straight. I'll have to double check the alignment of the stuffing tube and strut.

Meanwhile, I'm giving it a clear effex sparkle coat to help hold the decals on.

Many sparkle for you. Many sparkle, many happy!

                          Hey FC,

                          How about the following?

                          .187 Teflon liner

                          Speedmaster Sport 20 Strut
Strut Style: - Round Bottom Style Hydro - -

Piano .062 Wire Drive System for 3/16

Octura Coupler Flex Hex 5mm to .062 Piano Wire

                          Octura x642 Sharpened & Balanced

                          K & S Brass Tubing
                          tubing size: - 9/32" Diameter pn#132

Octura Small Drive Dog for 3/16

Octura Brass Bullet Nut for 3/16

Assuming that the strut is the right one, did I get all in the right sizes? Could I do without the Speedmaster strut?

Never worked with any of this stuff... Not counting the confusion added by imperial units instead of metric...

The only concern is the brass tubing and the fit with the strut. I'll just be using tubing I have here, not sure what sizes they are. I'm not that familiar with the strut, so will need someone with some working knowledge of the strut setup to chime in. Paging Jeff Wohlt! ... or Steve Vaccaro!
