Thanks to my bro Bustit, I found my stinger/rudder down at the Bay and they are gonna look super cool. I am thinking of fabricating a shroud to cover the hardware, like the extended/overhanging deck on the real one. Will kinda cover the non-scale hardware.

Anybody know of a good way to die or otherwise color aluminum black? The rudder will be black, but it would be cool to color the stinger too.

If you search the net a bit, you will find articles on anodizing... it just involves some acids... if you find them you're ok, it is very straightforward. I did some anodizing years ago (...high school) and it's quite easy, just use food or fabric colorants when you neutralize (boil the part in water to stop the etching).

If you put it in a sodium Hydroxide solution heated to 160* it will turn black ... not sure how permanent it will be and what the finish will look like.

Just a cool little FYI, the Mini XXX is a stretched OSE Raider. Remy asked for permission to do this when he made the new hull.

Hull is the deck finish on your boat? Did it need cleaning up?

Not really sure what you mean by finish, but it is white gel coat with a few rough spots here and there. I am going at it with 400 then 600 wet sand. Very good quality, no pock marks whatsoever.

I am meeting with the potential painter Monday to see about gettin her done up nice. Thinking metal flake black and red, with the white being pearly... oooohhh ya

His hydro's are the bomb.
Last year's "flat-out" at the German Saw was won by one of his hydro's.
That little missile blew all the other (larger and faster) hydro's away by its performance !

Today he posted his progres, fixing the stringers on the bottom.

Finally got my hardware

My long wait to get this baby back on the bench ended yesterday afternoon.

Got my strut and rudder and got them mounted up. Don't mind my make shift rudder extender... the rudder mount ended up being 1" shorter than I had planned. At least this way it is adjustable - both offset and angle

I don't plan on using this prop; I couldn't resist seein how it would look

As for innards, don't have anything glued yet. with the shown arrangement, I can get COG almost back to 25% (if you really squint, you can see the pencil marks that show 33% and 26%). The esc wire is at current COG.

I am thinking of starting with my 12L I recently got at the swapshop, and see how 4S and an x642 do. My ultimate goal will be mid 40s - but I bet I will push her handling limits before settling down.
