In the middle of the long slow process of sealing and sanding....and sealing and sanding... and more sealing and sanding! Four coats on so far. I think another four or so and it should be good for painting.

Just need to make my mind up on the hardware and buy the damn stuff!

The last picture is the exact reason why I made two of them... it just looks sexy!!! Good job!
You have to find a killer paint scheme... or use lots of clear and keep the good looks...

Thanks guys. The original plan was to have this completed for my son at Christmas...... maybe I'll get it done for his birthday! Just as well he knows nothing about it.

I have to agree CornelP, I just love the shape of this hull and I'm loving building it. I'm having a hard enough time trying to choose the hardware without thinking about a paint scheme. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I think once I've got this one done I might just build another for myself. Dad's have got to have some fun too, right???

That's why I have two of them...
Looking at how it turned out, I would be tempted to go for clean wood finish... maybe stained a bit. Take a look at:

Plenty of these in this thread... 51 pages of it...

                Motor choice

Ok, after a ton of head scratching and trying to stick with my original plan of using a brushed motor I think I may be tempted to the dark side and go brushless. It seems like there is a huge range to choose from which will give me more flexibility. My son will just have to learn to drive without reverse.

Now I'm over that hurdle, where the hell do I start? I'm still looking to try and keep costs down as far as possible and am not looking to build a drag monster. Something that will easily get up on the plane and not look too slow but have a reasonable running time. So with that in mind I'd appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Loads of people seem to like the Feigao motors, and they appear reasonably priced. The question is which one? And should I be looking to run it on 3S or 4S lipos. Then there's the esc.... what sort of current can I expect to be pulling with an appropriate prop.

So many questions and so little knowledge

                Thanks
                Gary

For the size of the WT, you will get decent results with an 11S or 14S, but differences are small to the 12L, a bit more powerful. Being all around 2000kV, you will need 3S for a nice speed and the ESC on 100A (for further upgrades). These motors (11 and 14S) will run ok on a 60A, which is very cheap, but you will be tempted to upgrade later...

Thanks CornelP. Would going up to 4S bee too much?

Normally these motors are rated 3S, but I heard they are ok on4. I have no personal experience, as the boats I am using them in are too small to fit 4S (mainly because of floodchambers) :)

                        A little more progress...

It's been a while since the last update but I've made a little progress... not a lot granted, but it's moving ahead slowly but surely.

                              Yup :-)

I had the option of using some 22mm plastic tube I had lying around or to go and buy a 3m length of 15mm tube. On the bright side it will give me plenty of room for adjusting the strut depth and angle.
