Are your tabs located 2-3mm up from edge ?? Or are they level? 170 amps average with a m447 is high. How is your stinger set ?

we had a great race facility up here on the coast, a onroad race track that could take up to 1/5 scale cars and a offroad 1/8 scale track.
a lot of people and the club put in around $50,00 towards it and the council dropped in around $250,000.
it lasted 12 months and some fat hag complained and it was shut down
that was 3 years ago and why i got back into boats.
about 6 months ago a hobby shop put in a small indoor track, its very tigh and technical but lots of fun, hopfully he will get the place next door soon and thats 4 times the size.
any way here is a video of the crashing oops mean racing

Good to hear from you ozzie. You need a bigger lake for them boats mate and some water. Take the tires off them and put on some props and let the fun begin.

Nice work Matto. What brand was the Lipo mate?

I am surprised. I have a 45c 4s TP and it is my best battery. Mind you my boats only run a few second and then rest so I guess that helps. I have puffed Elite, Zippy and Flight Power but always by running longer than I should.

yep, got 3 laps in and had to row out and get it. prob not even 1 min run time. the end of the battery where leads come out was puffed a little, and you can see where solder bled maybe from balancing taps. when it cooled down, it went back to shape and looks ok now, but i don't think i will trust it

                  A 30C@5000mAh will provide 150A sustained for a while.

If you have bled the solder and run 170A average then I would wager that you have rooted the pack.
I have 1 setup that will pull amps like that and spike well above and it has rooted packs too.

Bottom line is: do not setup to pull major amps unless you like replacing components often.

On that note, amps is not always the killer but total watts can be a shagger of bits too.
I have just made a 9xl into a paper weight by feeding it with too many watts. I was good for amps but the watts to the motor did the damage, prolonged overheating = demagnetise.
A demaged motor will root an ESC too !!
                  See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

do you think if the battery had previously had a little moisture in it, that could be the reason for the high amps? because there is no real drag on the way the boat is setup, esc timing at 0. i'm kinda hoping a new battery will solve my prob, but just don't want to put a new one in only to have it happen again. (maybe smaller props?)
                    thanks

Only if tabs had corroded, a 1515 1Y likes some advance. I am running 15 deg on mine at the moment. I am wondering if 0 deg could cause heat and amps due to inefficiency with a Y wind motor ?
