I honestly can't put a degree number on the level of "I don't care" about the PATS or the play call on the 1. It was conversation.

In regards to that last play, I can see the merit in doing what was NOT expected. We used to have "give the ball to Barry". Most expected the hand off to Lynch. Probably NE was expecting it too. The pass may well have had a better chance. There was really only 1 foot difference between hero or zero on that catch.

Keith, I guess I'm naive but do you really believe the NFL will perform an honest investigation of a controversy that will make them look like a bunch of dumb a$$es? Same as PED's, domestic violence, bounty hunting. They'll even adjust the facts if they have to. Suddenly it's only 1 ball that was under. All better. "We never saw the film of anyone being beaten in an elevator". Nothing will come of deflate gate no matter what the truth is. The NFL has turned into the WWE. Entertainment first. Sport second.

If you own a bar and invite people to a "Superbowl" party the NFL wants a cut. I may get a bill for having typed that. It's gigantic business. These guys aren't going to take an honest look at anything that puts them in a bad light. Unless it appears that something will impact their bottom line the NFL will allow just about anything. They've shown that repeatedly. PED's is but one. "Oh no, we better pretend to care."

College athletics is looking better all the time.

All controversy aside, it was a great game.
The only thing that would of made it better, for me at least, would of been a Katy Perry wardrobe malfunction....

Yes, they're there to make money, no mistake about that. That's exactly why they were perfectly fine with all the controversy leading up to the Super Bowl, and they weren't going to share any "facts" before that would calm the noise. Organizations like the UFC and even the wrestling one you mentioned work very hard for that sort of publicity. A fighter who is a villain creates the biggest payouts possible, because people tune just for a chance to see them get beat. Floyd Mayweather is a huge draw in boxing; partly because he is an incredibly talented boxer, and partly because so many people want to see him get knocked out. It's no different in football. People want their team to win, and they want the bad guy to get what's coming to him. In an event like the Super Bowl, where only 2 of the 32 teams are included, getting people to jump on a bandwagon and pick a team to feel passionate about is paramount. In that respect, this controversy was a welcome one from the NFL and one I could see them getting more involved in (in contrast to the controversies that make it look like they are employing a bunch of wife/child beaters). This one did nothing but make them money, which as you said is their sole motivation in these matters.

Obviously that's nothing more than theory on my part. I don't work inside the NFL and don't have any special knowledge of any of this. I do consider it an "educated" theory though. I know they definitely can't be counted on for anything other than trying their best to look out for their own interest. It's very apparent that they take the position of "pretending to care". I completely agree with you on that matter, it's quite obvious and really, expected.

I can't say college ball is any better though. They are just as money hungry as the NFL. The only difference is they don't pay the help.

I agree. Apparently I shouldn't have used the term "everybody", because I'm sure you're not the only one that feels that way. You are in the minority though; most people prefer to play armchair coach and use hindsight to determine their idea of proper play call. The reality is that you could change just one play in many occasions in that game and change the outcome. Obviously the Kearse catch that got them there, but there were a number of "that was close" plays on both sides. It really was an incredible game. NE fans are lucky they quickly adjusted and put Browner on Matthews, or that could have gotten ugly in a hurry.

He could have just as easily been sacked or had his pass intercepted on that play, or a variety of other things that would have lead to no score. The normal intelligent play would be to take the field goal. He didn't because he believed in his QB and his WR and decided to take a chance. Nobody cares about that one, because it worked. Likewise, if NE didn't intercept that ball on the 1 and Sea scored the TD, Pete would be a hero today.
nobody cares about that play because there wasn't 20 seconds left on the clock at the half yard line. theres just no excuse for a call like that.... and comparing it to other instances of "could haves" doesn't mean anything as far as I'm concerned.
when you are in that position to score, 2nd down, 20 seconds... you don't throw!!!! its not rocket science . Any coach could have made a better call.... you think Belichick would ever have made that call? nope.

I saw so many plays I thought were offensive pass interference by the Seahawks. I thought.......oh well that's because they want high scoring. Low scores are boring right?

                      NE rules btw!
What Carroll said made sense. If they didn't complete on second down, they would still have their ONE time out and be able to run on third, call a time out, and run on fourth. If they run on second and get stuffed, as it's very probable that they would have, they would have to use their only time out, and essentially only have 3 downs to get it in instead of 4. He said he saw the Pats in a goaline defense against their 3 wide and didn't like the chances. Since Lynch was 1/5 from the 1yd line this year against goaline defenses, I think the call had some logic behind it. Keep in mind, there were a few plays where the pats bull rushed up the middle and stopped Lynch for a significant loss. A score there was far from automatic.

And yeah, I've watched the Pats pass from the one more times than probably any other team in the league. Not to mention strange calls like letting the other team score, taking a safety on purpose, and a gang of other calls that could have went differently. In those situations he believed in his players and they made him look like a genius when it worked out. If they had failed to execute, he would have be under the same scrutiny that PC now faces.

Also, make no mistake... If Seattle failed to convert before the half as time expires, missing out on the gimme field goal, and then lost the game by 1, 2, or 3 pts., that play would be just as talked about as the play we're talking about now. Points are worth the same in the 4th quarter as they are in the 2nd. My point is that both were gambles. One is applauded because it worked to their benefit, the other is not because it didn't.

It was a slow start and ended up a pretty good game and was won by a better 4th quarter and a great last defensive interception by the Pats...Pete Carroll made the same sort of calls he made all through the playoffs and the last one bit him, whereas the rest were chancy but were pulled off.

Since nobody's hyping a super bowl anymore, you likely won't hear much more about deflated footballs. Here's the latest news:

                            - The NFL has admitted that the psi of the balls in question were NEVER RECORDED before the Pats-Colts game.

                            - It has also come to surface that ONLY ONE of the balls was 2psi under the minimum, the rest were "just a tick" below 12.5psi, which would more likely be a product of cold NE weather, not a grand conspiracy to cheat.

                            - The ONE ball that WAS 2psi under was the ball that Colts player D'qwell Jackson intercepted and then BROUGHT TO THE COLTS SIDELINE. It remained in his/the Colt's possession until later in the game, when it was turned in to officials and THEN measured to be 2psi under regulation.

                            - D-qwell Jackson was arrested last Tuesday for assaulting a Pizza Delivery Boy who reportedly "parked in his spot". It would appear that the spelling of his name is not the only thing that lacks integrity.

Don't worry though, if you're searching within the NFL for roles models for our children, I'm sure there are a few left. Might wanna check this first though... Here's the latest drama that isn't an attempt to discredit the best football team of the 21st century:
