It wouldn't get you in to trouble. Or shouldn't, at least. They would just tell you that if you buy stuff that way you will be SOL if something goes wrong with the transaction.

Ahhh, that would be it then, yes all my payments re going overseas:) Still always pay as a gift, better paying 1% then the receiver paying 4%:-/ IMO when they take .04c per dollar in exchange rate you shouldn't also be getting charged a fee, paypal must be making an absolute fortune!

....paypal must be making an absolute fortune!
This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but why shouldn't they be making a fortune? Apple makes a huge amount of money charging an arm and a leg for iPhones yet few begrudge them their propserity. PayPal offers a pretty unique service and are a major reason that Internet sales are where they are today. Thousands of businesses owe their very existence to PayPal. There was a big risk when the company started doing something no one else had done successfully, but their investors gambled - and won. Shouldn't they be allowed to enjoy being prosperous?

How would you feel if you had a bunch of Apple stock purchased when the company was new? Would you want to chuck it all away and sell iPhones for $25?

I don't think anyone is begrudging them anything, I said in my case I seen it as a little unfair that when YOU send money as a gift to someone else in the US neither of you get charged anything, yet when I send money to someone in the US as a gift, I get charged 1% PLUS .04c/$ for the conversion rate, they make nothing from you, and money twice on my transaction.

Hardly something I am losing sleep over, I am more than happy with Paypal's service and will continue to happily use them, was just an observation, and as for them making a fortune, good on them, thats the nature of business isn't it?

The original proprietor of paypal now owns the worlds largest private space exploration company !
I read somewhere it's a rags to riches story.
The small % charged everywhere certainly heading to an impressive cause ..

paypal as gift ? .. had an ose member send his email for payment as gift.. daft bugger mistyped email !! .. had no chance of recovery... $160 ... ouch.... some college student drank well that weekend , at my expense .....

everything I send is now covered by paypal.. eg +3% if requested.. but most ppl add 3% before sale knowing the fees.
