    'Gifting' Paypal purchases

Will marking a Paypal purchase as a 'gift' (to save paypal fees) affect/diminish your chances of a refund if the item never arrives or is not as advertised?

Yes it does, which is why I always pay the fees on my behalf when I purchase something. When selling I give the option, as some people think the 3% really hurts their pocket. When it's something around $20 I just send it as gift. I figure if someone needs the money that bad and are willing to get their reputation ruined over such a small amount of money, then I will gladly do so

I think you are SOL because the gift is not supposed to be used to Buy

"gift" or "payment owed" both apply no fees to neither the sender nor the buyer. I use "payment owed" for small dollar amounts or people I trust

Thanks Danny, but I was wondering if you paid by gift or 'payment owed' and there was a problem (lost shipment, not as described, etc.) would they cover it (buyer protection). I have studied the site and can't find that information anywhere. I'm sure that they can prove that money was sent, but is that as far as they will go if there are problems between the seller and buyer? I'm thinking it is, unless paid with fee attached.

I assume a gift is a gift. You can not revoke a gift. At least not in my book.

I tried to send money as a gift the other day. It was going to charge 0.75 to send as a gift.

If you send a gift using your confirmed bank account, it will not charge you.

You should be buying items sent with insurance anyway, so save for buying off a rip off merchant, you are safe as far as getting your money back regardless, just always ask for insurance and tracking on your purchases

Is that something new? I haven't ever seen a charge for sending as a gift.

I don't know why it does it but I ALWAYS get charged 1% even if the amount is in my paypal account. I have always wondered why because it clearly states that if it's from you bank account or paypal balance that I won't, but it still always does.

hmmm. You should call 'em. You shouldn't be charged for a 'gift' send.

I don't want to get in to trouble for sending so many "gift" payments lol, hence not calling them.
