Cybercrxt what are you charging to build a Whiplash? Also do you plan to cut out the first bulkhead to get the cells up there?Team Liquid DashComment

Hey everyone. Yep, that angled edge is the sponson mod. It is a mod Hugh, the owner of the boat saw either Raydee, or Paul do to his own. Hugh sent me pics of both those guys boats.
If anyone needs one build, what you will need to do, is either order a kit, and have it shipped to me, or send me the money to go ahead and order the kit so it is sent to me. Then I will build the hull, add the sponson mod if wanted, add the blind nuts for the turn fin assembly (so you will need to either have me order your turn fin, or ship me the one you plan to use so I can mount it before sheeting is installed), the full inside will be epoxy sealed, foam flotation added, then the outside will be epoxyed -either just sealed, or built up for a glossy finish. The cost of labor for me to do this is $120.00. I would also request about $15.00 for use of my epoxy supply (Mas epoxies), or send me what you would like to use. To the person asking about the battery cut, we already made the cut to tuck 2- 2cell lipos up front. They go plenty far enough forward. You do not want to cut the next member forward up near the nose..not unless you want a lot of flex between the sponsons. I thought about cutting that out, then realized that is the only front crossmember left..so its a bad idea as far as I am concerned.
I can also do other various things: Carbon fiber where the motor mounts, I can add all the hardware and stuffing tube, and motor mounts...whatever you need. That kind of stuff is upon request, and I will price it for you on a case by case basis. But $120.00 labor is the base price, and $15.00 to cover use of my epoxy stash! Hope that explains everything. Sorry for the late reply, I am working out of town during the day right now, and when I got home I had to start putting a timing belt on my wifes 04 4runner..oh joy! If anyone needs to talk to me during the day, email me at [email protected]. I can do emails on my phone. Well I can say from experience that if you want the CG anywhere near where it needs to be then that front bulkhead must go. What we did on mine is left it in until dead last and then took most of it out. We left just enough on the sides and top to safely slide the cells in but there is still some brace there. I have had quite a few 55-60mph flips and no problems so far. I even removed the top of my brace to get the batts in and out easier so really all that is left in my hull is about 1/16" on the bottom of the hull and 1/8" on the sides.Team Liquid DashComment

Hi Guys,
I built the boat Brian ran and there are way more mods to the sponsons than taking off the corner of the recovery pad. The boat that Brian ran went well over 100 MPH more than once and to be a stable SAW boat other things need to be considered.
For a heat racer you don't need to knock the recovery pad off. I'll say this much, 120.00 labor to build that boat is a smoking price. I couldn't do it for that money.

I talked to Hugh, we are moving the batteries further forward. I'm going to minimize cutting that front cross member as much as possible!
As far as the sponson mods are concerned, I would think all these sponson mods would do is help the air move under the sponson with less lift, in turn, letting the bow ride at a lower attack angle, helping with SAW runs. I know that Jerry Dunlap's sponson mod to the Miss Vegas actually helped lift the front up higher, to keep the bow up and help cut race water. Its hard for me to expand on it with experience as I have not built myself a whiplash yet..I do say yet, as I am very impressed with the quality of the kit, and the great reviews. Most of my past history is tunnel hulls, and outboard kneeler hydroplanes..I am an outboard man, what can I say! It all comes down to airflow and how wet you want your hull to run in my opinion.
I think my build price is very cheap as well. I will say this tho, I do not rush things and I want the product to be the best I can put out. Honestly, a stock whiplash, if you have any experience with boat building is a builders dream. The fitment is perfect, and makes it really easy to build. The thing I hate most about building wood boats in general, is the epoxy exterior finish..It is time consuming! Well, I will have more pics soon. Had some real world related things to handle the last few days, so there has not been much boat building time, but that changes tonight! Hi Guys,
Thanks. Some people asked to see one that I built which is why I posted the pics. The big thing to notice is the sponsons are stock and there is a lack of any bulkheads in the boat. I also bond the hatch to the hull and trim an opening. That cowl setup only weighs 3 ounces more than the plastic vacu pickle ones and looks a whole lot better.
