Read this!!! Important club thoughts
Great day todays gentleman. Couldnt have asked for nicer weather.
Ive been pondering this points racing thing all the way home and I think we need to discuss more about it and vote one way or the other. Here are my concerns. Several new members approached me today at different times and said how they may not want to run a series yet as they would like to get used to things. I myself, also thought about the situation where if someone wants to run on the 4th Sunday in for example LSO, yet isnt in the pts series, theoretically, they shouldnt be on the course, but, being they have paid there dues, it is in my opinion unfair to tell them they cannot run. So then you have the , if someone not in the series crashes someone in the series..... then what?" We dont need the drama. Lastly, we all pay our dues. Several of us, myself included were hesitant to join when the dues were $50.00. Even at $5.00 per race day (one entry class) one series will cost about as much as the club dues. And between the few of us who may be in it, if all the money goes into something even as simple as wall plaques, most of the money is gone.
So my final thoughts and what I would like to present for voting at the next meet, we can run a points event for fun and see how it goes. Once we get our ways of handling the races down to a science, logging data etc etc, we need to invite clubs to run and host an event. Thats when we need to charge a fee (ourselves included). I think keeping things going and working as a general boat runner type of club rather than focusing on the few that only care about die hard racing and points is the better way to go. I know there are a few out there as well that have been in the club for quite a while who probably couldnt care less about a points series. the more I think about it, I just feel its going to turn more people off than on.Last edited by tiqueman; 01-08-2012, 06:49 PM.Comment

Personally, I don't have a problem with running a $5 "volunteer entry" points series either. Not when it's being put into the treasury to help get the stuff we "need" on order to invite others over to run with us. (I don't want to be the only one doing it though) No plaques for the series only an honorable mention of the series winners here or in our video thread. Max dollars put into the bank for the purchase of what we need. If the one's that don't want to contribute want to run the heats we let them. But only of they have in their possession a current NAMBA card. No excuses, no card, no run.
A good general discussion is needed and it does need to put to a vote of some sort.Comment

I tend to agree with this thought from a general membership point of view.

Or better yet, after just having a good conversation w/ Chris, may be best to just do it for fun. Lets run a little series, keep points etc etc, keep records and logs and just have fun like we always do. We can find other ways to raise money. For example, we are doing the swap shop. I vote we keep that simple. If we wanna fill a cooler w/ waters and sell them for $1.00 a piece, great, but keep it at that. Maybe we can also do like an exibit type thing in a few months. Invite scale boaters, sailers etc to come and hang out for the day. Do aa scale thing, sailing theing and FE thing and set it up all over the lake, not just at our course. Charge a "parking fee" or something of 3 or 4 dollars to any and all. We'd probably do pretty well.Comment

Glad you enjoyed yourself amd I apologise again for using the back side of your H&M cat as a launching pad in that 1st Q heat. That was a case of piss poor depth perception on my part.Comment
