@bbill, I understand that 100%. But we dont have the amenities to hold ANY events at our local club, so all Im saying is, we need to establish money within our club, ourselves it seems, to be able to host you and anyone esle. We cant professionally host anything as we stand. Thats why we need to work locally to get more members so that we can be more established and at that point, invite everyone (district racing) to come run w/ us. Ive been racing over 25 years, dont worry, I know how it works.

Anyway, I dont see how we can charge anyone to come district racing at our facility, when all we have is pins and water. And Jim is telling us the same thing. We cant hold events. Its that simple. So as it seems, we all can go all over and pay to participate in other events, but we cannot hold events to raise money of our own. Make sense now????

As for the "why wont you come run with us" I have very little income at the moment, being in the Architecture and building field, work sux right now. I have to pinch every penny I spend. I can do whatever I can to help our club, but cant do the driving and fees to run at others at the time. Eventually, I will be all for it. But I also really enjoy running LSO and theres been no mention of it. Its easy and relatively in-expensive. And in my opinion extremely competitive. Im not a tunnel guy, and not really a hydro guy. I grew up watching offshore racing live out in the gulf and have been hooked since the first race back in the mid 80s. Offshore is where my hearts at and what I enjoy running. We dont even have a large LSO group w/ in our club. theres 2 of us, was a few more, but they have sold thier LSOs or just stopped running them. We are also in the works of getting a new class together w/ in our club. Basically an LSO set up, but times two. Twin class, spec motors and 4S. Should be a blast. As of now there are two of us, possibly threee and wanting more. I do run P-mono and starting a little LSH though as well.. and working on another Q boat, but the funds just arent there.. at least if I want to remain married.

Oh, and PS, just FYI Bill. And another reason I said reading is difficult and the "unknowns"..... I have 11 gas boats, 4 Nitros, 23 cars, 3 trucks, 3 helis, 2 planes etc etc.. Im very broad based and dont stick with running the same thing over and over again ever. Oh, and 13 FE boats (almost forgot), ranging from rinky dink 20mph to 80. So I do in fact "run all types"

And Bill, your more than welcome to come run w/ us anytime... we just have a lot to do and little to offer. But as I said earlier, we have a fantastic bunch of guys.

In a district you go to others clubs and race. They in turn go to your races. That is how you grow your clubs financial outlook and member base.
There is certainly nothing wrong with that at all. We as a club need to build up our base internally before we can host any events.
I love RC boat racing. I think we'll have to work on what classes are running, LSO, LSH, P Mono are usually the most populated classes at our pond.

We of the WCRA would be able to run any class you can get three or more boats to run in. Then, when you are able to host events, those of us who run FE (and those we can get to start running FE) will gladly attend.

Sounds great Bill. I "We" look forward to attending and hopefully in the near future hosting.

The experience a few of us had when we went to the Riverview club last year led me (and everyone else that went) to believe that gas guys don't like electrics.

As for nitro and gas at Ackerman, I was told back when I was joining this club that electrics were the only thing allowed to run on the lake by Sarasota county. Whether that's true or not I don't know. I do know that on more than two occasions we have had some nitro burners out there running test n tune and nobody complained. Had a big gas Jersey skiff running one day when we arrived.
The way I see it, as long as the county doesn't care I sure don't mind. Granted, several of us were chuckling to ourselves when the gasser was all excited about 41 mph showing on his gps but we were srill nice to him.

Hope you will feel free to come down and join us sometimes when you have time. We usually run test n tune the 2nd Sunday of the month and "try" to have some organized heats on the 4th Sunday. If Ray shows up we even have the cd player with countdown clock to use.

                Bill

I recognize that we once had a president that resisted FE and RTR inclusion. He is no longer our president and we are now taking steps to reverse past wrongs. The majority of our club members did not agree with his policies and we now have a president who supports ALL comers to RC boating.

If you guys are an electric club that is fine. That does not mean that you can't race your FE boats with us when we hold a race and we can't race our FE boats with you when you guys hold a race.

You won't need to worry about anyone running Gas or Nitro at your pond cause you are an electric club. We are talking about racing together, not merging clubs. Your club is still your club.

I just want to see more FE boats in the hobby, and I hate to say it but the only way I see that happening is if FE guys start attending 'mainstream' events. FE boats need the exposure that traditional Gas and Nitro clubs can provide.

Namba District 3, and WCRA are VERY well organized. Why not use that to your clubs advantage to build your clubs finances and member situation? It's a win-win for your club and members. And those of us nitro/gas guys get to see another form of boat racing that we may be interested in.

We may run different technologies of boats, but they are boats

Bill, none of this is directed at you. I was merely using this post as a sounding board to try and get my point across.

                Peace out.

wish i could get down there more often...after the nats, i got the raceing bug bad....got to beat bbill lol

Lets back up a few pages. This started as racing in a points series at a few different places north of us. Brandon, Tampa and I believe Riverview. A 5 race series and I believe Jeff mentioned 2 have already past.

Bbill, Is there opportunity to just come up and run one weekend? Not in a points series. But still under the fact that there has to be 3 boats minimum to hold class races.

The fact that it is a points series is irrelevant. Just come race with us at one. You will get a chance to race your FE boats (as well as me) and also expose new people to join in the FE side.

Ron, believe it or not, but I set it up the night before and prayed for the best.

I was also in that heat. Jumped the clock at the start, but reeled in the leader. Had I not cut the buoy in the last turn I would have got it. So second for me.

The lady from the county called me a few weeks ago and said the stairs were going out for bid. Haven't heard anything further. I thought myself that surely they would be in by now.

Is the new potential lake in Sarasota or Manatee County? The only thing about Akerman is that the man who donated it to the county mandated that model boats would always be allowed to run there. Not sure if there would be any problems with a different site or not. It would be nice to have a place where there are some facilities!

I totally agree. For those of us who wish to learn to race rather than just putzing around the lake, the offer to add 4 FE classes to the WCRA series in great. That's all I ever said. No requirement to join anything, just pay the usual entry fees.

If you were at the Nats, that was a day in the park for these guys.

They have all the resources we lack when it comes to putting on a first class race. Elevated drivers stands, PA systems, Start clock, twin retrieve boats with real gas engines, bathroom facilities and a food vendor.

I just want to race and have some fun! Bill its going to get crazy later this year when all the guys get their spec tunnels done. I have a felling we are going to see some damn good races. I wonder if I could get a spec setup to work on a mod vp? That might be an interesting setup.
