I talked to the lady at Sarasota parks yesterday regarding the steps. She said the county took away all of their maintenance workers so now EVERYTHING has to go out for bid. What a crock! That's why it's taking so long for the stairs. She thinks the bid will be awarded late this week or early next.

On the subject of club series races.... (make myself un popular here). I really have no intererest in dropping a $20 entry fee per race per class and think it would probably stir up more lack of participation than what we currently have.
Right now we're more or less a run for the fun group and everyone seems to get along well. Once you start tacking a dollar sign onto it, it becomes a lot like the clubs initiation fee that we just FINALLY got rid of. Tempers are more likely to flare with cash on the line as well. It's a good idea but a bad idea at the same time.
Just my .02
What else can we do to promote the races and attract people to Ackerman? I know we have the signs out, but I wonder how many people see them..... I was thinking maybe we should make up some flyers w/ some nice photos and take them to the LHS thats on SR70, a few miles west of 75. SR70, for those not familiar is just a few exits North of Fruitville. Easiest way to improve our club assets is more members..... I think theres another LHS on 301 and University.. I wonder if we put some there as well? I had dealt w/ them before and refused to go back, but..... might be decent advertisement. Oh and theres a small one in Palmetto as well. Matter of fact, some of you may know George as he and his wife used to build boats back in the 70s-80s. He had nitro hulls, mounts etc called 'EKIM". He would be a good one to help promote as well.Comment

I understood it as Kong mentioning and a few agreeing, $20.ish for the "season", not "per race". we had started talking per race but last suggestion which seemed welcome was One fee for the entire season. The question then becomes, if you race two different classes, is it 20 per class etc etc.....
I don't really have a desire to run for money but don't mind helping the club out. $20 for the season (per class) is acceptable to me as long as participation is not mandatory. Let's not turn off new prospects with thinking they will be forced to run it.Comment

I pour lots of money into these boats and $20 to race 2 or 3 classes once a month is not that big a deal. $20 each for a whole series is not even worth doing. I know I'll race at least 2 classes, X 4 races, thats at least 8 races, that comes to $2.50 a race( not even counting that you run 3 heats each race) split in 1/2 makes a whopping $1.25 each per race for the club...$1.25 X 6 racers = $7.50 that won't even buy one T- shirt a month...
Not what I had in mind.
Would $10 each per Race be more reasonable? That would be $40 each for a 4 race series. We all have big $$$ in boats, I'm sure we all can handle at least a $10 or $20 entry each race.

Not quite sure I follow your logistics up there.. or to what you were trying to get at... I did just wake up though......
3 racers, one class, say LSO. If its $20 for the 4 week series, thats $60.00 total and 30 for the club. Then add Pmono, LSH. etc etc, the club Id think could potentially see over $100.00 per 4 week (4 months) event. And if we run two seasons, thats well more than the club sees now.
That indeed would put some $ into the club. No, its not going to get the club rich in one season, but its better than our current situation. I dont feel we need to make bookoo bucks every 4 week race season. But a little bit each time would be good.
I agree a bit w/ Bill and Jim as well. More money, more problems. We need to be sure the fun, layed back atmosphere isnt going to slip away. We have to consider too, and Brian, your one of theses... Times are tough for a lot of us right now. Yeah, some of us do put lots into these boats, but most of us also got rid of 2 to build one bad a$$ one. All the sudden spending extra money, although not much, becomes questionable to some. Even at $20. for a 4 week series, 2 classes now cost $40. So how many are going to run 2 classes? I know I cant. $10. per race, now your $80.00 for 2 classes... well, I guess it would be 60 because the suggestion was 3 of 4 races. Also as mentioned above, I think by Bill. What about for those who are not competing? If we run 3 heats a day, are we now going to run multiple sets of classes a day so that everyone gets a chance to play or do the non racers run w/ the racers which creates a whole different set of problems? I know that we run a few of each now, but hows that going to work, series racers and non racers? We'd be there til 6pm if we run everything seperately. Hmm, maybe its just easier to come up w/ another way to make money for the club.....
I think this would be a bit easier if we had a 10'oclock meeting the next meet at Ackerman to discuss a racing series and schedule.Last edited by tiqueman; 05-05-2011, 07:49 AM.Comment

I see whats going on, I think you guys mean $20 per class for the whole series, so if you ran 3 classes it would be $60 each for that series -
(1 ) Lets say $10 each includes all classes each month - in 4 mos (the series) the max you could spend is $40
(2) If you don't want to participate in the series, you still race, but no points or prize.
(3) Best 3 of 4 races, 1 point for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd. Throw out your worst race, DNF, DNS. Least points at the end of the series wins.
(4) Set Up a race format and schedule, and start working on the clubs website.
Most racing clubs charge their members and other racers an entry fee to race at each event.
At my ROAR registered RC Offroad track I charged $10 per class each race.
Some of the others need to chime in here also. I trying to figure out what will work for everyone.Comment

In regards to (2). I think running competitive and non competitive boats in the same heat is asking for DRAMA....Comment

club name and logo
How many of you would like to have a sticker like this for your boat? What size?1", 2", 3", etc? What would you think would be a fair price? I would have them made on heavy printed vinyl like they use to wrap cars.
attached.
We do have a nickname it is the "Aquamaniac's", a web site to.

Wow!! Just got a minute to catch-up on recent posts and have some definite opinions on the recent subject ( imagine that):
Having a points series. Great
Charging $ 10.00 a head for members and $20.00 for non-members regardless of entries to fund plaques and keep the kitty resusciated. Great
Charging more, then paying out cash prizes is like charging yourself to mow your own yard. Bad: will result in contention among friends, reduce the sharing of information, UNinspire newbes to participate, and be in direct conflict with why the Club was formed. I know of no other Club that races for cash - probably for a reason.
If the Club needs a cash injection, then there is nothing wrong with a special assessment. So far, members have stepped-up every time to overcome various challenges.
Just my dos centavos - after all it is Cinco de Mayo...Boats don't win races, drivers do.Comment

Not sure on the price of the shirts. Probably around $15 each for a small quantity. Adding a pocket ups the price a couple bucks. I'm working on cleaning up the logo. It looks great on the computer but when blown up to put on a shirt, the hydro on it looks like crap. I'll try to get a quote in the next couple days.Mini Cat Racing USA
