Bill "Aeromarine" didnt see the me stopped and clipped me. Sounded like an explosion, but he kept running fine so I was sure to see my hull destroyed somewhere. I continued and after bringing it in found not much wrong with it. Few minutes later when we all came in, Bill noticed a lot of water coming out of his hull......
I think this must gave been a light layup fe hull. The glass is pretty thin. Might be why it only came in at 10.5 lbs with batts. (Seems like I remember sailr and mike saying theirs were a couple pounds heavier) With it being that fragile it's not really going to cut it for racing though.

I can't swear to whether it "leaked" in there or not but can swear it "poured" out of there when I picked it up out of the water.

                    Nice avatar Chris.

So I thought Id bring this topic back up to conversation, and mostly for those not present this past weekend. Brian (RCKong) I thought had a nice idea that could benefit the club, so Jim, listen up!

He suggested as for next calander years, year, we have a "pay to enter" race season. I think Ray R chimed in and said its somethign like 6 races, have to be present or take best 4 races??? Anyway, there would be an "x" amount fee to enter the race schedule. Ie, $20.00 for the 6 event season. At the end, a certain amount would go to the winner and a certain amount would go to the club. I find this a pretty good idea and help to raise money for the "bank". At 6 weeks of racing that technically allows 2 seasons per year, provided we arent blown out...

                    which leads to....

I had mentioned this to a few out there as I believe Hugh made a comment and Brian made a comment about moving the course closer to the east bank. I used to slalom ski w/ a guy and we had 3 courses set up, up river in the back country. we had issues w/ folks steeling our bouys, so we came up with attaching a line to a conc. block w/ a small float on it about 2 feet down (would be shallower in our case) that had a loop in the line below the float. We would then take our bouys w/ bungee cords and attach them as need to what course we would run. What about doing something like this at ackerman. Although the bank is a little more unforgiving along the east side, it would be great to have a course that ran north/ south for days like this past Sunday. Setting up like this would keep the "appeal" of the lake for visitors in the park area so they arent looking at bouys and probably keep the county happy?

Anyway, just some ideas as its kinda frustrating, especially for those who drive long distances to show up and be blown out along our course where 50 yards over could be run with only surface wind issues and not as much or no chop etc etc.....

Good ideas. We would have to make sure to take down the buoys whenever we run north/south because there is also a Kayak club that uses the lake. Might cause problems.

Regarding the "Pay to Play" race series: I would like to see someone take this on as a project...come up with the rules, $$ amount to enter and to win, etc. and put it in writing and present it. We could all offer our suggestions. I've got my hands full with everything else right now.

                      Anyone?

Yes, this would be great, It will drive more participation for one,( if you got money in it you are more likely to show up) figure 6 entries X $20/each = $120.00 X 6 races = $720.00 a series - WOW... and there is usually more than 6 of us there.
Now split that in half. one half for the club( new gen, PA system, bouys, shirts or hats, ect.) the other 1/2 pays out 1st, 2nd, and third for the series, maybe some trophys, RC boat stuff, Lipos ect.

We will need a treasurer, and a score keeper with a laptop to keep track of the series and funds.

Figure though as well, there will be more than one class, if thats what you mean by series.. there may be 3 in LSO, 7 in P-mono, Q-offshore etc etc... so that would have to be taken into consideration as to how much went into each "class". I think thats what you were saying, but just making sure. By any means, the club bank could stack up quickly.

Also Jim, has there been any more thought to hosting an event? Running a series would surely produce some fundage for things we might need to host. Plus fess for that event....

I am already the club treasurer unless you want to set this up separate from the club. We will need people to keep track of the stats, advertise, etc.

I know the buoys are easy to take out. We just need to be SURE we remove them when not running and that the float isn't too close to the surface to interfere with the kayaks, etc.

I'm not sure it matters how many entered each class. It all boils down to the final places in each class. If only three people enter in a given class, then they will all place! Same as at any race. We could set a rule that you MUST have points to place. In other words, if all of your heats are DNF, then you don't qualify. Could be that only one of the three in that class will actually win anything.

If we try to match up the funds with the participation it will turn into a book keeping nightmare.

I have spoken to Steve Hurl, President of the Brandon club. I'm pretty sure we could use the Brandon site to host these events. Not sure about 6 times a year but maybe could be worked out.
