I am very very sad right now.
I installed wire drives with new collets and T600 1400Kv outrunners, I went to the pond and after not even a couple of minutes both shafts came loose from the wire.
Lost 2 beautiful 447/3 L/R and drive dogs/prop nuts. That pond owes me about $200 in props and hardware now.
I've attached pictures of the setup and the aftermath, I wish someone was there to take a video, for those 2 minutes that boat was FLYING. Literally.
It was running on 6s1p, perfect balance too.Comment

That does suck. Wiredrives are tricky to make but I have to say... solder is not really the best route. Were those 078 wires?Comment

All of mine now have a retainer on the stub in front of the strut.
I have some with a wheel collar and some with an epoxied on tapered collar that means I need to drop the strut blade to pull the wire at the end of each days runs.
All of the hard work options beat losing props to the pond. A new wire and bare stub costs me about $5 vs $25-35 for a prop and dog, easy math for meSee it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment

I have to say I like the Retrieve Ducks.Comment

Those motors have MASSIVE amounts of torque. 12 poles and capable of delivering ~4hp.
I've been scratching my head until I saw the motor change. For some reason I still thought you were using the leopard 2200's on 4s...
Those motors will twist the shafts into pieces with big props, guaranteed. You'll need a beefed up drive train to run them.
Jeff knows of ways to get the .078's to stick in high torque situations, in the mean time setting the ESC to soft start will help.
The stingers accept standard cable drives, so perhaps even using .187 3/16" cables might be a good route to go.
I have some loc-tite secured wire drives I'll be testing soon, if they work out like they should, I'll send you a pair.FighterCatRacing Team CHING BLING - Ching Bling. Brilliant, Advanced Sparkle for your hull.Comment

I think 3/16 with the 2 piece system is the way to go, but those square end cables are really hard to find.Comment

Simon, could you post some pictures, maybe in another forum?
I think that would be beneficial to all, I was thinking to glue a bushing on the inside of the shaft, too bad I didn't do it.
Jeff you are the wire man as we all know. I too make my own wire setups and have got over losing a few props to the pond.

There's a way to get them locally and have them cut & pressed into a square end. I forget which kind of shop does it, but they should carry the cables in stainless steel and be able to square the end on side. Someone guided me to one, but can't find the thread. Might have been a local marine shop.FighterCatRacing Team CHING BLING - Ching Bling. Brilliant, Advanced Sparkle for your hull.Comment

I think someone mentioned speedometer shops?
I ordered some 3/16 RH lay last night on Ebay from Australia, it's already squared on one end.
I'm not sure how long that will take, I guess the Daytona is going in storage for a while.

Sorry that your boat had problems, but did I really saw that some one turned the props while battery was plugged in? -I would never do that, once I dropped the tx and the boat wot´d on my lap and it was scary! (never know when the electronics go wild, just drop a tx or some1 else with same frequncy or...)
But really nice looking boat and hope you get her runing soon!

You're right, I should have not touched live props. It was just for the camera!
On the positive side, I think the duck is working better after greasing the jet drive.
