Herb Stewart Tunnel with Mystery Motor

After doing OK ( one first, one second and the other three heats middle of pack plus one DNF) in AZ as a Spec boat, it was time to get ready for the "ZSP/WTS ?"
[ Zoom-Splash-Plop/What's That Smell ? ] race , better known as SAW's. First test with smallish prop and a motor I've had sitting on the shelf for years . Trim angle was unchanged from the Spec setup, will adjust accordingly : And yes, It's a Stilletto cowl; will have smaller/lighter cowl fitted soon-

camera shut off on this vid -

" ZSP/WTS?" vid - no smell but ate the servo :

Wow, that didn't take long ! Right you are & yup, I drilled holes in the endbell
( which unscrews) for better cooling & to let the water out & the Corrosion/X in after the inevitable dunking Since this is a SAW's application, I'm counting on air-cooling to do the trick since the runs are only a few seconds.

You were right the first time; a 7XL. The drive was angled up too far for this motor (obviously ) - it was that way to loosen up the boat for the spec setup and I hadn't changed it- will do it for more testing happens. Just a trial run to check motor temps; will get some GPS readings as things progress; more prop & more speed coming

It weigs four oz. more than the VS-1 cowl that I'm going to use & the VS-1 cowl is much lower profile. For SAWs every little bit helps !

That is a quick tunnel! Good luck at the SAW's!
I used to run the DPI in my avatar without the cowel and it was less prone to blow overs since it stuck out and gave a little more surface to catch the air.

Makes me want to convert one of my old 3.5cc OS tunnels. I guess I do have 4 spare lower units. :D

Tony, It looked good. I would maybe take out a 1/2 degree in the drive. Looked to be going around 60ish. I like the look of that tunnel. Stilleto cowl looks real nice on it! Mike

How long have you had that hull? Herb did build some pretty good hulls. I have been trying to get ahold of his son but with no luck lately. That boat seems to be running pretty good.

I bought it as a bare hull from someone here on OSE right after Herb passed away. It's been sitting on the shelf 'till recently. For a big boat it did pretty well as a P-Spec rig, not exceedingly fasst but really stable. Will start tuning for SAWS very soon & will post progress.
