I guess if I had 18k and I could ONLY spend it on an RC boat and it had to be turbine powered I think I'd be pretty happy with something like this!Last edited by v-spec; 08-04-2010, 07:43 PM.Comment

What I'm saying is I'd give 18k to somebody in need before I spent it on a toy. I guess I'm just that kinda person. And 90% of the guys with a boat like this saw an RC boat at a lake and liked it and decided to look for whoever could build them the best of the best threw some cash down and took it home not knowing the first thing about it.

Thats standup of you wanting to give away that amount of cash to needy folks, not alot of people would do that, i salute your intentions.
This isnt a hit or judgement on you, i just want to make a friendly observation/opinion, commentary style
Whether someone decides to spend 100 or 100,000 on a toy is really up to them and i salute them, and it frankly doesnt affect anyone else unless it is a person that shouldnt be spending that amount because they simply do not have it or indeed a family needs it and an expensive hobby is draining that family fund just because they want it or want to keep up with the jones', i am tracking with you there.
I have no problem putting 20k into a toy, and building that toy myself, because i can. I would have a problem giving that money away just to feel good. Why not keep it and spend it on your own family? if you have that much free cash then other issues also apply.
As for your statement of 90% of the folks with these boats buy them and have them built by others is not true. I know all the major builders on this planet capable of building these giant rigs, 90% of the big rigs you see were built by their owners, 10% may have been bought or built by part timers that really have no business building giant rigs, and you can tell. You may think there are a ton of these giant scales out there, there is not.
Folks like us build our own monsters and in fact give advice to those folks wanting to build or buy similar rigs, letting them know what they are getting into and in fact advise against buying or owning one due to complexity and support logistics, this is after we find out they have zero experience in building or driving rigs like these.
Handing a boat like the ones we build (giant, spendy) to an inexperienced boater is ethicaly wrong, just like handing the key to a ferrari to the kid that just got his driver liscence the day before. Most of us simply wont do it, and the amount of big rigs built by us and sold are few are far between.
It is quite easy to tell during a conversation if the person you are talking to built that type of rig or not.Comment

, the video you sent me was of Peter , the guy that built the turbine miss geico in the Op's original link. He has mad build skillz, just lacks a bit in the facts dept.
